We’re just not going to take this any more – The Brexit Fightback Part 3

MPs, democracy is how you got your jobs - respect it or be removed

Our analysis of MPs’ voting records shows that 87% of them can’t be fully trusted to deliver Brexit.

Brexit Facts4EU.Org conducted a detailed analysis of the voting records of all MPs in the last six months. It is said that politics is an art not a science but we were able to use scientific methods to discover the extent to which readers can rely on their MP when it comes to Brexit.

Brexit Facts4EU.org Summary

Our MPs and Brexit – the shocking facts

  • 86.7% of all MPs appear in our ‘untrustworthy’ list

How we classified MPs as untrustworthy on Brexit

MPs talk, but what do their actions tell us? Specifically what do their voting records tell us? In an effort to find out we carried out an exhaustive piece of research covering all three votes on Mrs May’s surrender treaty (aka the Withdrawal Agreement), as well as many other votes. We also reviewed statements and speeches.

Our main set of criteria

  • Any vote for any of the four indicative votes (in particular, Boles' Norway, Customs Union, and Peter Kyle confirmatory public vote)
  • Any MP who voted for the Withdrawal Agreement three times
  • Any MP who voted for the Withdrawal Agreement twice and also voted to take ‘no deal’ off the table
  • Any MP who voted to take ‘no deal’ off the table, regardless of other votes

If any reader has been asking themselves how it is that we still haven’t left the EU, almost three years after the British people voted to do so, we believe we have provided the answer.

The facts clearly show that whatever ‘fudges’ they may come up with in interviews or in their speeches, the vast majority of our MPs have failed to support Brexit in the sense that most people understand it.

Observations

With 553 out of 639 voting MPs having voted in various ways which either thwart, delay, or turn Brexit into something worse than remaining in the EU, it is no wonder that we still find ourselves members of this sclerotic institution.

We have long argued that the most important aspect in achieving Brexit has been in persuading MPs to honour the result of the Referendum in full.

Tomorrow we will once again provide a detailed summary of how you can make your voice heard in the most effective fashion.

A word on our criteria

After much debate we decided that any MP who voted for Mrs May’s Withdrawal Agreement on the third occasion - but who otherwise had an exemplary record - would not be penalised, provided they have subsequently recanted, as many have publicly done.

Our own view is that no MP should ever have voted for this surrender treaty under any circumstances, but we are aware from conversations we had with MPs at the time just how much pressure was applied by No.10 and the Whips’ Office.
