The 10 new EU potential candidate countries lining up for the billions

Part III on how the British people have dodged huge costs by exiting the EU

The British people have been funding non-EU countries for years, but were never told

In this series (which started here) we are looking at the EU’s plans to enlarge its empire to take it up to 37 countries. As we explained in Part II the enlargement involves massive sums being paid each year by the small number of richer EU countries, to subsidise the new members.

When the UK was a member of the European Union it contributed to what is known as the EU’s ‘Pre-Accession Funds’ which are paid to candidate countries years before they join. Thanks to Brexit the UK is now only marginally liable for this, but due to Theresa May’s disastrous ‘Divorce Bill’ which she agreed with the EU we are still paying for some of this.

The EU’s current candidate and potential candidate countries

Below is the EU’s current list for potential new members:-

  • Albania
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Georgia
  • Moldova
  • Montenegro
  • North Macedonia
  • Serbia
  • Türkiye
  • Ukraine
  • Kosovo

The massive wealth transference to wannabe EU member countries

The EU has something known as the ‘Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance’ (IPA). In effect this is a fund which the EU’s net contributor countries must pay into and which pays out billions for all manner of projects in countries lining up to be EU members.

While the UK was an EU member it contributed billions to poorer countries to improve their citizens’ lives. None of this money ever improved the lives of British citizens. It did the reverse, by reducing the UK Government’s budget for infrastructure projects at home.

Brexit Facts4EU.Org Summary

The EU’s ‘Pre-Accession’ funding for prospective new members

Below are the last two budgets the British people paid into, and the new budget which the British people have escaped thanks to Brexit.

  • 2007-2013 : €11.5bn
  • 2014-2020 : €12.9bn
  • 2021-2027 : €14.8bn

How much has all this cost the British people?

At a very conservative estimate of the UK contributing 12.5%, (we believe it is more), then the British people paid €3 billion (approx £2.6bn GBP) between 2007 and 2020. What we don’t know is how much more the British are paying for all of this as a result of Theresa May’s disastrous ‘Divorce Bill’, which included ‘future commitments’. This could well include the period 2021-2027.

In all of this it should be noted that these figures do not include all the billions the UK paid to the EU for its ‘off-budget’ funds, such as the €6bn paid to Turkey for an ineffective attempt to stem the flow of migrants, nor the €30 billion paid to Africa under a separate fund.

Conveniently His Majesty’s Treasury never included these transfers in their calculations of the UK’s “net contributions” to the EU.

Here is what the EU says about these massive IPA funds

“IPA is a unique programme that supports IPA beneficiaries in their ambitious political and economic reforms and in their progressive alignment with the European Union's rules, standards, policies and practices on their path towards EU membership.

It fosters reforms in candidate and potential candidate countries through a combination of financial assistance and policy dialogue, preparing them for the rights and obligations that come with EU membership.”

Observations

The wealth transference above can probably be described as a bribe to poorer countries in Europe to join the EU’s empire.

At what point were the British people ever asked if they wanted to pay for the EU to expand itself? This has been going on for years and in some cases (e.g. Turkey) there is no immediate prospect of them ever becoming members.

The projects being funded in these countries, partly using the British people’s cash, have always been attributed to the EU Commission which claims credit wherever it can. The citizens of these countries have at no point ever been made aware that any of these projects were down to the generosity of the British.
