And 80.0% of these illegal migrants are male and under 40 years old
Based on a Facts4EU analysis of the latest Home Office data files we can reveal that only 2.96% of illegal migrants arriving by small boats across the English Channel have been deported. More than 97% remain in the UK and 80% of them are single males aged under 40.
In Part II of this Facts4EU.Org 2-parter on deporting illegal migrants from the EU and from the UK, we reveal the pitifully small number of President Macron’s illegal boat migrants who have been deported from the UK since the small boat crisis began in 2018.

The failures of the EU and the UK to deport their illegal migrants
Part I - 1.2m illegal migrants ordered to leave EU in last 3 years – but 1m are still there

This two-part report was covered by GB News yesterday, from Martin Daubney’s afternoon show (when our Chairman was interviewed about it) to the late evening show hosted by Patrick Christys.
It comes as Sir Keir Starmer has to confront the latest Home Office figures on the numbers of small boat migrants.

About these illegal migrants
Facts4EU.Org has analysed the latest detailed data from the Home Office’s files which cover the period up until June 2024. Today we reveal the official age and gender balance of all those who have crossed the English Channel since 2018 and who have entered the United Kingdom illegally.
This all comes after the weekend's news, when the total number since the crisis first began in 2018 reached more than 140,000.
In addition, our analysis shows that the number since Sir Keir became Prime Minister just over 90 days ago surpassed the 13,000 mark.
Brexit Facts4EU.Org Summary
1. The gender and age balance of these illegal boat migrants
- Male (all ages) : 109,848
- Female and unknown (all ages) : 15,379
- TOTAL : 127,834
Of this total of 127,837 illegal boat migrants, 80.0% (102,219) are male and under 40

2. Where have they come from?
The short answer is that they have all come from France. According to the Home Office the top 20 nationalities are :-
- Iran : 23,134
- Afghanistan : 18,595
- Iraq : 16,337
- Albania : 14,589
- Syria : 9,958
- Eritrea : 9,100
- Sudan : 6,506
- Vietnam : 5,587
- Turkey : 5,202
- Egypt : 2,604
- India : 2,233
- Kuwait : 1,654
- Ethiopia : 1,516
- Georgia : 1,017
- Somalia : 841
- Yemen : 722
- Sri Lanka : 694
- Pakistan : 653
- Libya : 639
- South Sudan : 602
The above shows the results for the last three years. The rankings have changed in the last 18 months, however. In this latest time period the order is Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Syria, Eritrea, Vietnam, Iraq, Sudan, India, Albania.
Clearly the stand-out countries are Turkey (where many British people holiday), Vietnam (with which the UK has recently done a free trade agreement), India (a major partner and Commonwealth member), and Albania (where again many British people holiday). None of the migrants from these countries should be able to claim any form of protection in the UK.
How Albania distorts the returns figures
In the case of Albania, 14,589 Albanians have used small boats to enter the UK since 2018. This year (2024) only 2% of Albanian illegal migrants have been granted some form of leave to stay, thanks to the returns agreement negotiated by Rishi Sunak’s government last year.
The Home Office data files do not reveal how many Albanians arriving on small boats over time have been returned, but we do know the numbers overall for Albanian returns, whether they entered by small boat or other means. What Home Office data does reveal is that 39% of all returns of illegal migrants (from all methods of entry) in the 12 months to June 2024 were Albanians.
“The increase in enforced returns in the latest year was largely driven by returns of Albanian nationals which increased from 1,509 in the year ending June 2023 to 2,822 in the year ending June 2024 (accounting for 39% of returns in that period). This follows the signing of the agreement in December 2022 between the UK and Albanian governments to deter and disrupt illegal migration and criminal networks.”
Excluding Albanians from the total of all boat migrants would significantly reduce the percentage of all boat migrants deported, from its already-low level of 2.98%.
Observations
If over 97% of illegal migrants were deported we would see a significant reduction in the numbers, as news of this filtered down to those considering making the hazardous Channel crossing in small, overcrowded boats. Instead it's the inverse. Illegal migrants know there is almost no chance of them being deported once they set foot on British soil.
As things stand it seems there is no prospect of the deportation rate rising and therefore no prospect of the illegal migration numbers falling.
