Re-energising the UK’s Youth

Once again the United Kingdom has shown its dominance in an important aspect of the nation’s life – the quality of its universities compared to the EU and the rest of the world. We summarise the results of the 20th anniversary edition of the global QS World University Rankings.

Whilst many readers will have serious concerns about the wokery currently going on in our universities, this is happening in other countries too. What we are showing below is a comparison between the United Kingdom and the universities of the EU and the world, regardless of this.

Brexit Britain eclipses the EU when it comes to university quality

The UK provides four out of the Top 10 universities in the world – a performance only equalled by the United States, a country five times larger than the UK.

None of the EU27’s universities appear in the Top 10.

Apart from the four UK universities in the Top 10, only one other European country appears – the non-EU Switzerland.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) celebrates twelve years at the top, the University of Cambridge retained 2nd place, while the University of Oxford climbed one position to make it into the Top 3.

Strength in depth

It is not only in terms of the Top 10 universities of the world where the UK eclipses the EU27. This also applies to the Top 100.

Brexit Facts4EU.Org analysed the rankings for these 100 universities.

This is an extraordinary achievement

To have more British universities in the World Top 100 than the 27 EU countries combined demonstrates the dominance of British academia over the continent.

Despite this, the EU still has not agreed that the UK can participate in its ‘Horizon Europe’ research programme, 30 months after they were supposed to, which we last reported on here. We continue to recommend very strongly that the UK now presses ahead fully with its new ‘Pioneer’ replacement for Horizon.

When it comes to the EU’s bloated ‘Erasmus+’ programme which was supposed to be about higher education placements abroad but is mostly about something else entirely, we are delighted with the success of the UK’s Turing scheme which has replaced it. It seems clear, looking at the university rankings, why the EU Commission was desperate to get the UK signed up and paying.

We still need to raise £7,000 of funding for the editing of our 'The Independence Documentary'

Together with our partners at CIBUK.Org, we've organised a TV-style documentary with a stellar line-up of well-known politicians and all kinds of interesting people, young and old, men and women, white and ethnic origin, presented by Alexandra Phillips.

Alex will be known to many readers as an ex-GB News presenter and a frequent sight on everything from Question Time to Talk TV.

We have finished filming - now we have the long task of editing by our professional production team, if we can get some extra funding. This is going to be big!

About this QS World University Rankings report

The results feature 1500 universities across 104 higher education systems, drawing on the analysis of over 17.5 million academic papers and the expert opinions of over 240,000 academic faculty members and employers.

Observations

Global Britain

Yet again the “Little Britain” derided by UK Rejoiners (which couldn’t survive without EU membership, they said) has shown that it dominates the European space in the important area of higher education.

The UK’s rankings in the latest global university report demonstrate that not only does the UK beat the EU, it trounces it. To match the mighty US in the Top 10 (with four placings each) is one thing. But to go on to beat all the 27 EU countries COMBINED in the Top 100 rankings – this is some achievement.

We present this information to the young people of the United Kingdom as part of our series: “Dare to Think Differently”. We hope that all parents and grandparents of teenagers and student-age young people will forward them a link to the report above and our other reports over recent weeks. There is a lot to be cheerful about.

Turing

One of the many benefits of Brexit which has actually been achieved is the Turing scheme. This has replaced the EU’s bloated and ineffective Erasmus+, which was ostensibly a programme to give the EU’s students a chance to study abroad but which is now fundamentally a political project. We make no apologies for once again including the links to this important and informative series below.

Woke nonsense

None of the above detracts from our deeply-held views about some of the complete nonsense now being perpetrated by university authorities.

We already have authorised agencies governing what universities are supposed to stand for, and how they are supposed to conduct themselves. It is clear that the senior personnel in these governing bodies must stand down and be replaced, and senior civil servants at the Dept for Education must do likewise, as they are obviously incapable of doing their jobs. We are sure this would be a quick electoral win for this government – or the next one.

Despite this

To end on a positive note, we hope all our young people are proud of the rankings of British universities we have summarised above. And all of this was done without the EU… (‘Just saying’.)

We must get reports like this out there

Reports like the one above take far longer to research, write and produce than many people realise. If they were easy, readers would see other organisations also producing these daily. However, there’s little point in the Facts4EU.Org team working long hours, seven days-a-week, if we lack the resources to promote them effectively – to the public, to MPs, and to the media. This is where you come in, dear reader.

Facts4EU.Org needs you today

We are a 'not for profit' team (we make a loss) and any payment goes towards the actual work, not plush London offices, lunch or taxi expenses, or other luxuries of some organisations.

We badly need more of our thousands of readers to become members, to support this work. Could this be you, today? It's quick and easy, we give you a choice of two highly secure payment providers, and we do NOT ask you for further support if you pay once. We just hope you keep supporting us. Your membership stays anonymous unless you tell us otherwise.

Please don't assume that other people will keep us going - we don't receive enough to survive and we need your help today. Could you help us? We rely 100% on public contributions from readers like you.

If you believe in a fully-free, independent, and sovereign United Kingdom, please join now by clicking on one of the links below or you can use our Support page here. You will receive a personal, friendly ‘thank you’ from a member of our team within 24 hours. Thank you.
