We are not doctors nor epidemiologists: we publish facts
We have experience in observing how quangos in the EU and around the world have started to act as if they can define the news agenda, rather than simply providing facts on it. We constantly observe these organisations growing and spreading their influence as much as they can. More funding usually follows.

We therefore feel it is appropriate to provide some facts for our readers so they are as informed as possible.

Prime Minister warns that Italy-style crisis is coming to the UK in 2-3 weeks

“The numbers are very stark, and they are accelerating. We are only a matter of weeks — two or three — behind Italy.”

Given the warning from Boris Johnson last night, we researched the latest situation in Italy, using raw data from the WHO and from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (Higher Institute of Health) in Rome.

So what is the current situation in Italy?

All data correct as of 04.00am this morning (Sun 22 Mar 2020.)

47,021 cases confirmed
4,032 deaths

We have seen Italian death rates quoted with percentages as high as 8%. This is not accurate, as testing is not being done except on symptomatic patients. Below we bring you the latest real facts direct from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in Rome.

Total number of deaths from Coronavirus so far this year – 4,032
This is fewer than the usual number of Italian deaths from all causes in four days
99% of deaths were people of retirement age
99% of deaths were of people with pre-existing illnesses
Half of the deceased had three or more pre-existing illnesses
Only 1% had no known existing illnesses

Of those tested, 4.8% had critical symptoms
23.2% had severe symptoms
72% had medium, light or no symptoms
Italy has the second-highest proportion of over-65’s in the world, after Japan
The United Kingdom is 24th on the list

Observations

For the further avoidance of doubt, no-one in the Brexit Facts4EU.Org team is suggesting that the Coronavirus should not be taken very seriously. Nor are we advocating anything other than the Government’s advice to everyone in the country to stay safe and follow all the guidelines.

Our job is to provide facts to inform the debate. Usually we do this almost exclusively in regard to Brexit and the EU. However given the severity of the current crisis and the reaction to it we felt we should highlight some facts which would not otherwise be seen.

Our biggest concern is the talk of the current extreme measures lasting well into next year. We would be very surprised if this were remotely necessary, based on other health scares in the last 100 years.

Our secondary concern is the hyperbolic reaction from governments and the various global health organisations. It disturbs us that the cost in lives and livelihoods of these measures does not seem to be being considered. People are dying from the virus but there will also be people dying from the measures used to combat it.

We simply believe there is room for debating some of these issues, and we certainly believe that readers should have more facts at their disposal.

Thankyou for your efforts in providing some accurate facts and analysis.
I think we are being lied to on a huge scale - the MSM are compounding the panic by publishing photos of queues and empty shelves whilst simultaneously telling people not to panic.
Thankfully, there are now a few sane voices (including yours) starting to question the massive over-reaction of Governments - Peter Hitchens has an excellent piece in today's Mail on Sunday.
Although I generally don't have time for NWO conspiracy theories, I feel there is something bigger going on - conveniently blaming CV for the markets dropping when they have been over-valued for a few years and overdue for an 'adjustment' - the big merchant banks and hedge funds may well be complicit in engineering this . . .
I predict that by mid May the worst of the medical effects of the epidemic in the UK will be over, but the negative effects of the over-reaction will last much longer - perhaps 2 or 3 years. When the annual fatality statistics are finally reckoned, I very much doubt that they will be very different from the previous few years.

I'm angry. I called the numbers a grotesque distortion from the start and we still can't get the national print and broadcast media to present evenly balanced facts to the nation. They still talk of up to half a million UK deaths / 30 million worldwide, worst case scenarios, never about the median percentile. Where has reality gone? Where are the level heads who can bang together the irrational ones?
First he did nothing then Boris Canute thought he could change the tide of a global viral infection by smoothing it out. He now thinks he can do it by belatedly locking the stable door with us inside. Three different policies in two weeks and yet another one tonight. Hmm ... great leadership! Just proves no-one knows what they're doing. Talk about Dads' Army - Frazer wringing hands, "We're doomed", Jones, headless chicken, "Don't panic, don't panic". Chaotic. Pathetic. The entire nation being shut down. Deliberate, pre-meditated destruction of everything we've worked for. Our kids, our grand-kids lives in hock forever with what could be £500B of immediate relief plus whatever else over the years to come. All handed out via the banks and the good old City boys who will, of course, take their usual 'fees'! Keep the favoured ones sweet while the rest of the country goes through a total meltdown on a scale not even seen in war time. Surely this is criminal, treasonable, an abuse of power given the flawed or complete lack of firm evidence on which this action has been taken. It really is madness.

I lost the middle part of this in which I wrote of the great and the good hard at work tonight debating dubious data and scientific theories on behalf of an electorate they have now totally sidelined and coming up with yet more hokum. Having talked themselves hoarse they will, of course, retire to their choice of fully functioning 24/7 bars and restaurants in the Palace of Westminster. No worries, we're all in this together lads.
For completeness I should declare I'm a 73 year old male and apparently vulnerable due to a clinically suppressed immune system which gives some protection from chronic Crohn's Disease but leaves me open to other nuisances. Che sera sera. I have my flu jab each year. I live on my own, I get around, do what I can and enjoy life and fresh air among the Yorkshire Pennines. I will not be locked up for a month let alone three in the most glorious and invigorating part of the year with summer time round the corner, spring lambs joyously bouncing round the fields, skylarks above and wildlife getting on with what it does right now. I'm not being selfish. I'm not putting others at risk, I'm not ripping supermarket shelves apart but I already miss my teatime pint and natter with my mates. Why do I get the feeling that given the geographic spread of deaths to date shows two thirds of them are in grubby, grimy, overcrowded London that this has become a London-centric NHS issue for Boris Canute.

All hands to the pump. I hear Diageo and Smirnoff are generously donating tanker loads of alcohol to assist in the production of handwash. I also note the first UK Covid-19 death of a prisoner in jail. They drink the handwash and currently have an unrestricted supply. I tell you, it's madness.

99% is an awfully round number. As you publish facts, can you link to ISS Rome's original document and provide absolute death numbers (that is, the number of retirement age deaths as a total count rather than a very round percentage)?

The percentage has varied from 0.8% to 1.2% in the last week. We do not lie - ever.

most of this is overblown Boris is doing a fine job considering and I cannot watch SKY or BBC at the moment RT is much better this virus will be gone in 2 to 4 weeks or contained
