This week our Podcast Editor, Graham Dale, explores the huge implications of Gibraltar effectively joining the European Union and the consequences for British sovereignty over the Rock.

Our new Podcast Editor talks about how the proposed Treaty with the EU, Spain and Gibraltar was months of secret negotiations in the making yet was sprung on the UK people and Parliament only last week. It arrived with demands from the EU that it be ratified and formally enforced by 10th April 2026 to suit the convenience of Spanish commuters.

Readers can learn more about recent developments in the reports we produced for GB News on Tuesday 24th, and Thursday 26th February 2026. These were both very popular and our combined messaging across all channels reached over one million voters.

This treaty is a shameful betrayal of British sovereignty over a strategically vital military asset which has served Britain for over 300 hundred years.

This period includes the Battle of the Nile, Trafalgar, the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, the short cut to India via the Suez Canal, the Great War and World War Two, when even Spain's dictator Franco did not try to invade in the weakness of our Darkest Hour.

Our Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, seems to have no sense of history and can't wait to ingratiate himself further with his friends in the EU. In this case he seems perfectly happy to sacrifice Gibraltar in yet another “Reset” in his headlong pursuit of Rejoining the EU.

This Treaty is a pragmatic solution to an issue caused by Brexit.

In May 2016 Phillip Hammond who was Foreign Secretary at the time warned leaving would pose a risk to the security and sovereignty of Gibraltar. Residents in Gibraltar new it which is why the voted overwhelmingly for Remain. Phillip Hammonds comments were dismissed as "Project Fear".

Brexit was 6 years ago. Gibraltar was not mentioned in the Trade and Cooperation Agreement. Any surrender of sovereignty has been agreed solely by Kier Starmer and you were one of the few people that voted for his Government.

And the root cause of Brexit is neatly summed up by President of Southern Ireland Catherine Connolly's who certainly got it right with this most profound statement: “Brexit is not the problem, Brexit is the consequence of the problem which is the failure of a ruling elite and compliant governments, our own included, to realise the democratic deficit that is an integral part of the EU.”

With the fact that undemocratic forces within Westminster and further afield did, and are doing, their utmost to overturn a democratic vote and undermine the benefits of Brexit, one has to ask: Why does the UK (or any other nation) need another level of corruption and malfeasance above that which the UK has already?

4 HYW. Catherine Connolly's comments were made 10 years ago, before Article 50. In her election last year she spoke of preparing for Irish Unification. A future Brexit giveaway.

"It SHOULD be the easiest treaty in history, but probably won't be in practise, because politics would get in the way of economics'"

And before article 50, after article 50, either way Catherine Connolly was right.
As regards "preparing for Irish unification", I remember David Steel telling his party to go back to their constituencies and "prepare for government"
