Yesterday the EU celebrated ‘Europe Day’, but not VE-Day

The UK’s pivotal role in freeing Europe is conveniently forgotten - again

Facts4EU.Org reminds the Commission that the EU would not exist had it not been for the UK

Each year the EU Commission celebrates what it calls ‘Europe Day’. This anniversary of the signing of a document is celebrated by them annually on 09 May, as it was yesterday. The day before this is ‘Victory in Europe’ Day (‘VE-Day’) which celebrates the liberation of most of Europe from the tyranny of German occupation and the surrender of German military forces to allied commanders.

In the year prior to VE-Day the D-Day landings took place, at enormous cost to troops from the UK, the US, and the Commonwealth. As we approach the 80th anniversary of D-Day next month, we remind the EU Commission that there would be no European Union without the sacrifice of so many from the Anglosphere.

Here is one of the Commission’s agencies yesterday

“Every year on 9 May, we celebrate Europe Day, which commemorates the signing of the 'Schuman Declaration' on 9 May 1950. The declaration was an ambitious plan to secure long-term peace in post-war Europe and is considered the beginning of what is now the EU.”

Maps – what we liberated and what the EU is today

It is worth looking at maps of Europe under the Third Reich in the 1940s and Europe under the EU Commission of today. Our caveat on the first map is that this was not created by us and arguments can be made regarding the formal extent of the German empire and then its effective control of other territories. This applies to Vichy France, for example.

Equally the Commission prefers to forget the UK’s role in freeing Eastern Europe

Today the EU would not be the size it is without the crucial victory of the UK and the US in the Cold War against the Soviet Union. Germany would be half its current size and the EU would have 11 less member countries.

Observations

All of the above appear to be inconvenient truths for the EU Commission.

Yes, these events happened many years ago but if the Commission likes to celebrate the signing of a document in 1950, then why does it not celebrate the liberation of its own continent?

We live in hope that the German President of the EU Commission and her colleagues are planning major events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in just over three weeks’ time. Failing that, the Brexit Facts4EU.Org team would like to publish at least one major article about this. If any patriotic readers could help us with a financial contribution towards this work we would greatly appreciate it.

We must get reports like this out there

Reports like the one above take far longer to research, write and produce than many people realise. If they were easy, readers would see other organisations also producing these daily. However, there’s little point in the Facts4EU.Org team working long hours, seven days-a-week, if we lack the resources to promote them effectively – to the public, to MPs, and to the media. This is where you come in, dear reader.

Facts4EU.Org needs you today

We are a 'not for profit' team (we make a loss) and any payment goes towards the actual work, not plush London offices, lunch or taxi expenses, or other luxuries of some organisations.

It's quick and easy, we give you a choice of two highly secure payment providers, and we do NOT ask you for further support if you pay once. We just hope you keep supporting us.
