The UK’s pivotal role in freeing Europe is conveniently forgotten - again

Facts4EU.Org reminds the Commission that the EU would not exist had it not been for the UK

Each year the EU Commission celebrates what it calls ‘Europe Day’. This anniversary of the signing of a document is celebrated by them annually on 09 May, as it was yesterday. The day before this is ‘Victory in Europe’ Day (‘VE-Day’) which celebrates the liberation of most of Europe from the tyranny of German occupation and the surrender of German military forces to allied commanders.

In the year prior to VE-Day the D-Day landings took place, at enormous cost to troops from the UK, the US, and the Commonwealth. As we approach the 80th anniversary of D-Day next month, we remind the EU Commission that there would be no European Union without the sacrifice of so many from the Anglosphere.

Maps – what we liberated and what the EU is today

It is worth looking at maps of Europe under the Third Reich in the 1940s and Europe under the EU Commission of today. Our caveat on the first map is that this was not created by us and arguments can be made regarding the formal extent of the German empire and then its effective control of other territories. This applies to Vichy France, for example.

Today the EU would not be the size it is without the crucial victory of the UK and the US in the Cold War against the Soviet Union. Germany would be half its current size and the EU would have 11 less member countries.

Observations

All of the above appear to be inconvenient truths for the EU Commission.

Yes, these events happened many years ago but if the Commission likes to celebrate the signing of a document in 1950, then why does it not celebrate the liberation of its own continent?

We live in hope that the German President of the EU Commission and her colleagues are planning major events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in just over three weeks’ time. Failing that, the Brexit Facts4EU.Org team would like to publish at least one major article about this. I don't believe having uncontrolled immigration has provided a free and safe country for British Jews,

Trying to understand 1930's UK with our present living standards and view of the world is always going to be grossly misleading. It's almost 100 years ago, there was a huge global depression, extremely high levels of unemployment and almost no welfare state. As far as I am aware the Holocaust did not start until 1941 and nobody could have predicted this would happen.

We need a controlled immigration policy that suits present world conditions and ensures that the present UK population can live a safe and free life. People fleeing France were definitely not in danger and, according the the French Government, they have already been offered accommodation in France which they have refused.

11 NH You raise some important points. When we think of WWII, we first think of our victory over the Nazis. We never experienced the Holocaust in the UK … there is no British Anna Frank. But in Europe, (some) people first think of the Holocaust and only secondly of the Brits and allies beating the Nazis. Not sure Europe is not celebrating the defeat of the Nazis, but I expect the remembrance of the Holocaust victims should also be more prominent in Europe. Hence some EU countries might have a different perspective on the current refugee crisis than we have in the UK.

British problems since pre-history, have always come from Continental Europe. The corrupt and rotten EU is no exception. The EU Commission is full with families who have a tradition of collaboration with the Soviets and the Nazis. Tusk, Sefcovic and Selmayr are typical of the body of the Commission. I like the Germans and have worked with five German Companies: but after decades I have few illusions left about motivation.

And, what is the average German motivation?
Yes, the German elite, the french elites have different motivations from the countrymen - but don't be a swivel eyed loon to conflate the two very different tribes.
