James Cleverly was in Brussels, meeting the French and the EU Commission

On Monday 04 March 2024 the Home Secretary James Cleverly was in Brussels, hosting something called ‘the Calais Group’. Its purpose is apparently to discuss tackling the global migration crisis.

The Home Secretary met representatives from France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, in the presence of the EU Commission and its agencies. As its name suggests, this group is supposed to be addressing the illegal migrants crossing the English Channel to the United Kingdom.

On the same day as the meeting, another 401 of the EU’s illegal migrants crossed the Channel from Macron’s France in seven boats, which the French failed to stop. This happened in just one day. In total 977 illegal migrants had successfully made it to UK shores in seven days.

Bad timing for Cleverly

The latest figures from the Home Office show that 977 of the EU’s illegal migrants were able to reach the UK’s southern shores in small boats in the seven days from 27 Feb – 04 Mar.

It must be particularly embarrassing for James Cleverly that on the day he was in Brussels talking to various French, EU Commission, and agency officials, another 401 migrants successfully made the journey from France. This took the 7-day total to almost 1,000.

A total of 20 boats successfully made it to the UK from French beaches, despite all the claims from President Macron that his police and border officials are doing something for the hundreds of millions of pounds the British people have paid him for them to do their job.

What is this ‘Calais Group’?

The last meeting of this Calais Group took place in December 2022, 15 months ago. Given the tens of thousands of the EU’s illegal migrants who crossed last year, it might have been thought that this group would have been meeting every month.

The drop in migrant numbers last year was mostly due to adverse weather conditions, together with the UK government finally dealing with the Albanian government to get them to take back their people.

Observations

The fact that almost 1,000 of President Macron’s illegal migrants crossed to the United Kingdom in just seven days last week is testimony to the abject failure of the Government to control the country’s borders.

It is hardly surprising the Government’s popularity ratings are the worst in over 45 years. It is not only Brexiteers who are concerned at the vast numbers of migrants entering the country each year.

Rejoiners also reject the concept that mostly young, single men of unknown origin – because they deliberately toss their identity papers and phones overboard during the voyage – continue to arrive in large quantities on the south coast of England.

There remain serious security concerns at who we are letting in, to say nothing of the effects on our society in terms of social cohesion and the massive pressure on our public services.

Then on top of all of this we have massive legal immigration which is wholly within the control of the Government, but which remains disastrously high and hugely costly.

I'll tell you every day mate it's not brexit's fault.
It's the UK government and the EU working in cahoots behind closed doors that makes it happen. They don't want to stop the boats.

Rwanda won't work anyway.
It's a ploy to try to bring the electorate round.
At best they would send very few people but I doubt a single plane will take off.
It costs us lots and lots and for every person we send, They can send one back to the UK.
Yeah, A really bright idea.
The Uk Gov are hiding behind human rights and other laws to actively assist the illegal entries.
They love it and it's all planned.
If people REALLY wanted to stop the boats then they would legally and safely make it happen.
And don't forget, The MAJORITY of these illegals are coming here to criminally milk our system.
Do you think they will integrate and contribute? No, They are only a damaging drain on the country.
Maybe some of them will set up another child exploitation group in Newcastle, After all, The white westerners deserve punishment, Especially vulnerable white girls.
Of course genuine innocent refugees should be supported.

It's clear Macron cannot or more likely will not 'stop the boats' Why would he? He's getting rid of thousands of illegals every year. It suits him to let them cross the channel.
The responsibility for the never ending crossings lies squarely at the feet of the (dis)UK Gov. All the time they accept them, offer them shelter, clothing, food, free NHS (and for the immigrants it is FREE) money and mobile phones, of course they will keep coming.
They can be stopped, but it takes a strong-willed Gov. to do it. Australia managed it, we could manage it. Unfortunately we have a Gov. of lily-livered Socialists, running scared of the 'Human rights' gangs.
If, or more likely when, Starmer and co. take over, it will get worse.

Still peddling the myth that promises were made.

Both the Leave campaign and the Remain campaign were intentionally separated from Government and they weren't in a position to promise anything. As both campaigns had people from opposing parties as well and within the political parties in each campaign structure.
Maybe it’s time to accept that remain did not mount a effective campaign to remain in the EU considering they had the easiest campaign to base off, or was it just hubris on the remain side?

One also need to recognise that Brexit only had the one outcome and that was to leave the EU to pave the way for UKGOV to make laws and regulations 100% in the UK, that gives the UK flexibility to change laws that are having an adverse affect on the UK without the need of asking 27 other countries. That is the whole point of Brexit no one said the UKGov will not implement policy which the electorate disapproves of, but the electorate has a saying in its approval via elections
no sunlit uplands happening in the EU either

To end the channel boats scandal (1) get us out of the EU "human rights"circus... (2) bring down the shutters on all "asylum" hearings and declare an end to UK Freeloaders' paradise..(3) ask every MP "Do you think this country has enough people ..if not why not ,and what figure would be enough ? Another 20 million ? 50 million ? (4). End all immigration legal or not with a few exceptions for those with proven skills we need
(5) keep the grubby fingers of politicians ,lawyers and civil servants out of this and set up a dedicated ad hoc body,time-limited to concentrate minds on the task.. (6). Encourage a culture of national awareness which is not fearful of foreign opinion that our reputation for total welcoming of everyone is a thing of the past. Of course our ruling mob will do none of this,the lib left will howl and be placated and it all goes on as usual until the lid of the pressure cooker blows. And blow it wil , perhaps in our grandchildrens or great grandchildrens time.

Old Albion is quite right that the Macron regime has no interest in stopping the human tide. But even the French people are mystified and amazed by our "Come over and help yourselves" mindset ( at least the mindset of our "leaders"). What is the collective noun for politicians ? A plague...a pestilence ? I rather favour a "calamity". Plagues at any rate die out when they have run their course,unlike..........
