We reveal the latest crime figures by ethnicity in your area, according to the latest figures

On Friday (19 April 2024) the Home Office released the latest numbers for those taken into custody by police for suspected criminal actions in each area of England and Wales in the year ending March 2023.

What follows are the number of detentions in custody by self-declared ethnic group and by Police Force Area in England and Wales. As ever, Scotland and Northern Ireland report their data separately and much later.

Importantly, these figures only relate to those taken into police custody, not to all crimes committed.

Overview

Over three-quarters of a million people (764,924) were detained by police in England and Wales in the year ending 31 March 2023. This in itself is a far higher number than many readers might have imagined.

This is even more surprising when considering that so few crimes are actually being investigated by police. Being taken into police custody does not of course indicate guilt, which is for the courts to decide – if indeed these people are ever actually prosecuted.

When it comes to the breakdown by ethnic origin this may come as less of a surprise to many readers. It is a simple fact that non-white people form a disproportionately high percentage of the total.

Non-white criminal activity by region

In percentage terms the rural area of Norfolk tops the table at 91.5% of non-whites detained by police. 12,396 individuals were suspected of committing crimes in that part of the UK in the year ending March 2023. Relatively speaking Norfolk would not be considered a high crime area, but the vast majority of that crime seems to be committed by non-whites.

It will come as no surprise to readers to learn that in overall numbers Sadiq Khan’s London comes off worst, with 83,185 people of non-white origin detained by the police last year. This represents almost 2/3rds (65.7%) of all those taken into custody by police in the London region.

Observations

This report is not racist. It comes from official Home Office crime ethnicity figures published on Friday.

What it shows is what everyone knows but few are comfortable saying. A disproportionate amount of criminal activity is being committed by a small percentage of the UK population. It is possible to argue about the reasons for this, but it is not possible to dispute the official statistics.

Add to that, all the EU nationals of a criminal persuasion, who are preying on this country; then you have a formidable total of alien criminality. Imported by a corrupted political class who have no other interest but their own perverted ends. Quote by Benjamin Disraeli, "Lies, damned lies and statistics". There are weaknesses in using percentages. If there are 100 people in a room. and 25 of them have been arrested the arrest rate is 25%. If 2 of those people in that room are non-white and one of them was arrested, the arrest rate for non-white is 50%. and white 23.4%.

The stats on ethnicity should be concerning, as should be reoffending rates but this piece is cherry picking to support a xenophobic tone. Of the 633,036 arrests in the UK, 367,019 were of white males.

I am more concerned about the effectiveness of our police to detect and arrest crime in the first place. We have a significant issue in the UK with prison spaces and reoffending rates. Rates of crime detection, effective retribution and rehabilitation to prevent reoffending are not good enough.

Don't get your first paragraph.
If there were 100 people in the room and 2 non whites were arrested then their arrest rate would be 2%.
It's looking at the population and saying how many were non white arrests. The information shows that overall more non whites are arrested. Your doing the Liberal lovey lefty thing of defending the indefensible.
All crime of any colour is bad and its ruining the country.

Crime in the UK is out of control across the board and goes largely unchallenged.
It appears you can Swan around selling drugs with impunity, Beat someone up and Rob a house and you'll get away with it.
The police no longer work, the courts let people off and there's no where to put criminals.
Why do you need to have gone to university or have a degree to join the police now. Why aren't there police on the beat anymore.
Why do police look portly and wet behind the ears.
It's going to get far worse under labour, All the more reason to vote Reform UK.

AGB. It's one of the issues with statistics and percentages. There are 100 people in the room. Of the 100 people 2 are non white. If 1 of the non whites commits a crime then the non white crime rate in the room is 50% or 1 of the 2 non whites. That leaves 98 white people 24 of whom have committed a crime.

I agree "All crime of any colour is bad" but this piece is trying to give the impression that the majority of crime is committed by non whites, it's not, the majority of crime is committed by white males. The proportion crime within the definition of non whites is too high but should not be used to cherry picking stats to promote xenophobia. That why I referred to detecting and deterring crime. We should be tough on crime but this needs to be balanced with reducing reoffending rates. The UK does not have enough prison spaces.

If you're trying to put forward a statistical analogy, it simply isn't working. You're certainly NOT illustrating an issue with the figures.

Given that the plod have become increasingly scared of 'appearing' to be racist, I would expect that they are MORE reluctant to detain people who are non-white than those who may be white. They're scared of the backlash (see the grooming issue and the current london marches as clear examples).
.
Therefore, that 2/3 of the people detained are non-white, would suggest to me that the suspects in MORE than 2/3 of the crimes that are reported would lead the police to believe that their prime suspects are NOT white. The police don't simply detain people for fun, so there must be some correlation between those detained and those suspected.

That this is a growing issue that neither the government nor the police seem able to do anything about, and we're still importing hundreds of thousands every year is pretty disgusting from my point of view - see my earlier comments above.
