“The (EU’s) law is an ass” – and their 2023 report proves it
The EU Commission publishes its fourth annual ‘Rule of Law’ report, and it’s not pretty

Brexit Facts4EU.Org summarises how bad things are in the EU
On Wednesday last week (05 Jul 2023) the EU Commission published its fourth ‘Rule of Law Report’, for 2023. Bearing in mind the Commission’s propaganda about the EU being an empire where the rule of law is sacrosanct, this report makes for interesting reading.
To quote just one fact from the report: “an increasing majority of citizens (70%) and businesses (65%)… believe that corruption is widespread in their country.”
This is the corrupt empire which Rejoiners wish the British people to re-enter
When reading what follows, we invite readers to consider the blatant hypocrisy of the EU Commission in all its propaganda about the EU being a place where ‘the rule of law’ prevails. Its own report proves this is not the case.
This does not only apply to ‘the bad boys of Europe’ such as Hungary and Poland. No EU27 country is immune from the EU Commission’s criticisms, censure, and legal actions.
Strangely the BBC, Sky News, and ITN have once again failed to cover this, so Brexit Facts4EU.Org brings readers a summary.

The lawbreakers in the EU’s land of “the rule of law”
Here is how the unelected EU Commission is interfering in EU nations’ business

The report covers four pillars: national justice systems, anti-corruption frameworks, media pluralism and other institutional checks-and balances.
1. Justice
“Regarding the recommendations for 2023 on justice, they address such challenges as the need for safeguards in judicial appointment procedures, the composition of Councils of the Judiciary, the autonomy of the prosecution service or the need to provide adequate resources for the judiciary, including salaries of judges and prosecutors.”
2. Corruption
“Corruption remains a serious concern for EU citizens and businesses alike… an increasing majority of citizens (70%) and businesses (65%)… believe that corruption is widespread in their country.”
“In some Member States, investigations and prosecutions into corruption cases are lengthy and a solid track record is still lacking, especially in high-level cases.”

'The Independence Documentary'
Together with our partners at CIBUK.Org, we've organised a TV-style documentary with a stellar line-up of well-known politicians and all kinds of interesting people, young and old, men and women, white and ethnic origin, presented by Alexandra Phillips.
Alex will be known to many readers as an ex-GB News presenter and a frequent sight on everything from Question Time to Talk TV.
We have just finished filming - now we we have the long task of editing, if we can get some extra funding. This is going to be big!

3. Media freedom and pluralism
“Various concerns persist with regard to the lack of transparency in the distribution of state advertising, conflicts of interests and access to public documents, which are some of the important issues highlighted in the report requiring greater attention. While some Member States have initiated reforms to strengthen the independence of their public service broadcasters, in several others, challenges in this respect remain un-adressed.”
4. Institutional checks and balances
“There is still no formal framework for stakeholder consultation in some Member States, or it is not sufficiently followed in practice, and civil society organisations and human rights defenders continue to face challenges such as funding issues and restrictions on their operating space. Concerns have been raised in various Member States regarding the continued use of emergency powers.”
The nonsense of ‘rule of law’ in the EU
Here is the EU Commission’s own ‘Vice-President for Values and Transparency’
“The rule of law is a key component of Europe's just society, political stability and economic growth.”
“Regrettably, concerns remain in several Member States. More work needs to be done to improve the independence of judiciary, impartiality of public service media and the safety of journalists.”
- Věra Jourová, Vice-President for Values and Transparency - 05 Jul 2023

The latest offences against the EU Empire
In April we researched and published the details of the legal infringements in just one month. As usual these offences went deep into the everyday operations and daily lives of EU countries and their citizens.
At the time of writing that report, 1,824 legal cases were actively being pursued by the unelected EU Commission of Ursula von der Leyen, against all 27 member countries. This is the reality of the EU’s ‘Rule of Law’. All these laws were created by the EU Commission. The EU Parliament which contains MEPs elected by EU citizens has no power to create any laws at all.
The package of infringement decisions in that month once again involved all EU countries. There were 164 infringements in total in April involving a large number of EU laws, Rules, and Directives. Increasingly there are fewer and fewer aspects of life which are not controlled by the EU Commission.
Observations
Every week the EU Commission pumps out its propaganda about how everything in the EU garden is rosy. From time to time, however, they produce reports where they are forced to admit this is not the case.
We can always tell when there is bad news because it’s usually buried in massive documents, which most journalists will not read. In this case there are hundreds of pages that were published on Wednesday (05 July 2023).
The simple fact is that – as we have previously reported – every one of the EU27 countries is up before the beak on a wide variety of charges.
We must get reports like this out there
Reports like the one above take far longer to research, write and produce than many people realise. If they were easy, readers would see other organisations also producing these daily. However, there’s little point in the Facts4EU.Org team working long hours, seven days-a-week, if we lack the resources to promote them effectively – to the public, to MPs, and to the media. This is where you come in, dear reader.
