A tour de force from Rt Hon Sir John Redwood MP, and a powerful speech by Rt Hon Mark Francois MP

At the Bruges Group fringe meeting at the Conservative Party conference this week, two great Brexiteers gave rousing speeches. We present them below, by kind permission of the Bruges Group, and of Robin from The Great Brexit Debate who produced the videos.

Redwood – A tour de force – 10 mins

We start with the Rt Hon Sir John Redwood MP, former Minister for the Single Market, and former Secretary of State. Delivered without written notes, this is vintage Redwood – powerful, informed, and persuasive.

Francois – Powerful, witty and and uncompromising – 13 mins

The second speech is from the Rt Hon Mark Francois MP, Deputy Chairman of the European Research Group. Containing a lot of humour, his speech includes the moment he knew the UK had to leave the EU.

Observations

Whilst we are working on our suite of one-pagers for the ‘Brexit Fightback Initiative’, (the next one will be published later today or tomorrow), we thought readers might enjoy watching two very good orators on the subject of Brexit.

These videos were filmed on Monday and edited and produced by Robin from The Great Brexit Debate, in collaboration with the Bruges Group who put on the event. We are grateful to both speakers and to both organisations.

Thank you Factsforeu! These are two politicians that I follow and admire. I cannot say that more strongly when I look at the rest of the Conservative party in particular. I don't consider the Labour party as worthy of anything bar a few exceptions. The Liberals are non-existing in my mind.

I believe that in rushing through the Benn Bill on the 9th September the House of Lords did not show due and detailed scrutiny of the Bill MP Daniel Kawczynski says "The Benn Act is a rag-bag, badly drawn up piece of legislation, it never faced proper scrutiny.
A BILL TO Make further provision in connection with the period for negotiations for withdrawing from the European Union.
The further extension is necessary for negotiations to continue after 31st October
The EU Council has chosen to impose the following terms and conditions on Article 50(3) extensions
This extension excludes any re-opening of the Withdrawal Agreement. Any unilateral commitment, statement or other act by the United Kingdom should be compatible with the letter and the spirit of the Withdrawal Agreement, and must not hamper its implementation. Such an extension cannot be used to start negotiations on the future relationship (Political Declation).
The Benn Act contains the Kinnock amendment which seeks to discuss the Political Declaration.
With reopening of the Withdrawal Agreement ruled out NO further negotiation is possible. The Act is ultra vires.

John Redwood - 9 mins in - strong applause for comments on fishing and farming. I couldn't agree more.

Mark Francois - 11.42 onward - interesting comment on bringing back to parliament 'in effect, MV4! ...If there is a deal ... and if we genuinely leave on Halloween I will vote for it... if we don't, I will be against it.'
But at what cost (Mark Francois avoids this)? We leave, but give away £39 billion, we're held in transition for many years, we tie in our defence forces and intelligence services to European control, we give away our fishing grounds?
It is far better to just LEAVE NOW on WTO terms (+ GATT24), then negotiate a Free Trade Agreement as an independent nation, unencumbered by signing up to a new European Treaty that gives away so much.

The Times newspaper reported yesterday the Brussels bureaucrats are conniving with the pro EU Whitehall mandarins to bypass Government Ministers and obtain this further extension.
The European Union could grant another Brexit delay even if the letter making a request for an extension beyond October 31 is not signed by the prime minister. European leaders are on standby to hold an emergency Brexit summit in the last week of the month if Boris Johnson fails to get a new withdrawal agreement past the House of Commons in the next two weeks. Under the terms of the Benn act, the government must ask for a further extension to the Article 50 process if he does not have Commons approval for a new agreement or the support of MPs for a no-deal Brexit by October 19.
“I am sure the system will produce what we need to get to an extension,” a senior EU source said. “We don’t care who it is, whether it is the prime minister or another representative of the executive.”
Many senior European diplomatic sources said that the request for one extension until January 31 could come from “the head of government or head of state” which means either the prime minister or a representative of the Crown, embodied by the civil service. “What Article 50 says and requires is that the extension is agreed with the UK. Strictly speaking it is silent on whether there should be a request or where the request should come from,” a source said.(The UK Parliament and Government do not work like the EU, and it comes from the Member State)
A Whitehall source told The Times that the extension letter could be sent by Sir Mark Sedwill, the cabinet secretary, or Sir Tim Barrow, the UK’s ambassador to the EU, should the prime minister refuse to sign or send it.
Surely this would be ruled illegal in an English Court of law.

I wouldn’t put any faith in that happening because we are an effective colony of the EU and have been since 1973 with EEC/EU law being supreme in this land so if it did go to court they would find in favour of the EU.

I didn’t watch the programme but I have read that the awful arrogant Yank Bonnie Greer insulted our country on Question Time last night by saying Ireland (much more accurately called the Republic of Ireland) owed this country nothing and that the US would side with that country over ours when it came to that wretched appeasement of IRA (financed in no small way by her god damm country) terrorism called the Good Friday Agreement which looks highly likely to prevent this country exciting the EU in any real meaningfull way.
Speaking personally, I have never liked Yanks and I have always thought their government has been an ill-concealed enemy of this country from the days of Roosevelt onwards. This country and especially its thick, treasonous politicians from the so-called ‘mainstream’ parties really need to wake-up to the reality of our so-called ‘Special Relationship’ with Yankland that is akin to the Yankee dog pissing on the British lamppost.
We desperately need pro-British politicians that aren’t in awe of the US. This party may fit the bill in that regard:

I see that the Irish PM is clutching his pearls that the EU trap of eternal subservience, the so-called 'backstop', has been shown for exactly what it is by the reaction.
I don't recall such concern, conversations & 'consideration' for N. Ireland when they changed their currency, adopted Ezone regulation, changed tax regime, changed their measurement system or even when they imposed a hard border (the only time in its history that there's been a hard border) during the BSE 'crisis'.

Indeed, not4EU. LIttle Leo has two massive chips on his shoulders about the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and boy does it show! It should be patently obvious what his real agenda and that of his puppet masters in Brussels is and that is to prevent the UK leaving if at all possible and certainly not in a meaningful way and also to try and lever Northern Ireland out of the UK and into the Irish Republic.
