What the EU said : Extension only possible if MPs pass Withdrawal Agreement

No changes possible to Withdrawal Agreement

Yesterday EU Council President Donald Tusk issued a statement in response to Theresa May’s request for an extension to the Article 50 period due to end one week tomorrow, 29 March 2019.

Once again he made it clear there will be no movement on the disastrous surrender treaty which Mrs May is still trying to force through Parliament.

“Even if the hope for a final success may seem frail, even illusory, and although Brexit fatigue is increasingly visible and justified, we cannot give up seeking – until the very last moment – a positive solution, of course without opening up the Withdrawal Agreement.”

Tusk also discussed the proposed extension itself, saying:
“I believe that a short extension will be possible, but it will be conditional on a positive vote on the Withdrawal Agreement in the House of Commons. The question remains open as to the duration of such an extension. Prime Minister May's proposal, of 30 June, which has its merits, creates a series of questions of a legal and political nature.”
What Mr Tusk was saying was very clear:
‘Sign the UK Surrender Treaty and then we’ll extend your membership of the EU further.’

Observations

No. We will never surrender.

The blame for this mess starts with the EU itself, for trying to inflict a punishment beating on the British people for daring to prefer independence over servitude to unelected bureaucrats and foreign governments.

The EU worked closely with Remain civil servants and Remain politicians, knowing full well that the British peoiple had voted to Leave.

They further took advantage of a weak and useless Prime Minister who did not have the support of either her people or the MPs elected to represent them.

The blame for this starts with the fanatical ideologues of the EU federalist Projekt.

When I heard unaccountable bureaucrat Mr Tusk issuing his ultimatum, the air was blue in my household. The arrogance and audacity of this man knows no bounds. Clearly, this warped sense of thinking is the view of the EU commission as a whole? It is time to send the EU a bill for our services in TWO world wars. They call us 'friends' (which I dispute) as they only want UK billions.
Prime Minister May should walk away from talks because when she is humiliated by the EU, it's akin to humiliating all citizens in our great country. We MUST NEVER be threatened by these unaccountable bureaucrats, and Mrs May should tell them to go to hell in no uncertain terms - we do NOT surrender.
The UK is the largest customer of the EU, and you don't makes threats to your largest customer. We have a massive trading deficit with them, and a 'level playing field' appears to have gone awol. The EU wouldn't understand democracy if it was under their nose.
UK MPs who consider the EU more important than our own country should wake up and smell the coffee if they want to keep their privileged positions, as REAL power is with the electorate. I am one of 17.4 million who believe in my country and will vote out MPs that defy a majority vote.
It's clear Mr Varadkar is getting worried when he stated, "It's time to cut the British government some slack".
TOUGH - He should have changed his attitude before he sided with a corrupt and dictatorial EU.

If anything made it clear that the EU surrender Treaty, May's WA, only favoured the EU it was Tusk's speech, making it's signing conditional for an unwarranted extension to ratify & goldplate our surrender. Indeed, it seems clear that they wrote it, with the full complicitness of our Govt.
Agree to this surrender or leave on WTO on 29th. At least he has made it clear that is what the real options are & always have been.
The semantics that the WA 'delivers' leaving the EU, because we do - for less than a second, before signing over our sovereignty & independence to an anti-democratic, unnaccountable 'union' who's aim is the destruction of nation states - does not wash, no matter what lies MPs say. You will not be forgiven. Grow a spine & vote it down & leave on WTO.
We now have the spectacle that the Speaker has quoted Erskine May, refusing a third attempt at passing this abomination, yet it's an EU condition that it passes. I have no doubt that the atrocious, partisan Speaker will trample even more of our Constitution in attempts to keep us in. The men in white coats really need to section the vast majority of Govt & Parliament. They are beyond pathetic. Another EU shill, for the region of Ireland, announcing what our Govt will be doing tells you all you need to know about the fog of duplicitness of our own Govt to con people and overturn democracy...

Of great interest is that the EU looks like it will make a new offer on the 28th March. Will this be:
a) leave on WTO terms, then talk?
b) Agree FTA ‘deal’, with WTO for now transition – GATT24 arrangement (my preference) or Malthouse compromise – ?
c) A long extension (with intention to call 2nd referendum)?
Certainly May’s deal MUST NOT PASS – that appalling subjugation arrangement would scupper any chance for both Leavers or Remainers from profiting from the EU proposal on the 28th March. Both Leavers and Remainers must now be persuaded to hold their nerve, to wait for the 28th March, and gamble on getting the EU proposal they want.
On the 29th March there will then be the choice for Parliament of accepting the EU’s proposal, Leaving without a deal (the default option), Revoking article 50, or a General Election. They will have until 11pm to decide (and enact the legislation!).

In my opinion this is where the Politico argument falls down:
'No EU country wants to be blamed for precipitating a no-deal Brexit that would inflict severe economic damage not just on the U.K. but also its nearest neighbours, especially Ireland, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. So, no one is likely to veto a postponement if London requests one.'
Firstly, I don't agree that no-deal would inflict severe damage on the UK.
Secondly, what the EU fears most is the UK being a highly successful and competitive economy at the edge of Europe. This would encourage other states to leave, or at least to use the threat to leave to negotiate reform of the EU in their favour. So some Eurosceptic states (Italy, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania) might well put aside short-term economic damage for the EU (which is not likely to affect these Eurosceptic countries much, anyway) for longer-term political gain. So they will vote, perhaps along with France (for it's own reasons), against ANY time extension for Theresa May. This is what Farage hopes will happen. And we need just one country to do so.
