EXCLUSIVE – Brexit Facts4EU.Org reveals what the EU really cost the UK last year

As the Conservative leadership contest was still heading for its climax, HM Treasury released its latest figures for public expenditure in the tax year ending 05 Apr 2019. The data shows that the UK paid the EU more than £11.2 billion for the previous 12 months.

That’s £11.2 billion and it doesn’t even include payments to the EU for their “off-budget” funds.

These are the pro-Remain Treasury’s own figures

Buried deep within hundreds of pages of information released by HM Treasury in July are the official figures for how much the UK has paid the EU in the previous year.

Brexit Facts4EU.Org has once again researched the Treasury’s data and can bring you the key facts about how much the UK Government transferred to the EU for the financial year just ended.

Net payments to the EU for the tax year ended Apr 2019

Total gross amount : £21.0 billion
Less rebate and public sector receipts of £9.8 billion
Total net contribution to the EU = £11.2 billion

And this isn't even all of it - see below

The Treasury states that “Other attributed costs” to the EU are not included

In the documents we studied, the Treasury clearly says that “the UK's contribution to the cost of EU aid to states outside the EU is attributed to departmental budgets.”

In simple terms, substantial extra contributions to the EU by the UK are NOT included in the figures above.

Many times over the past four years Brexit Facts4EU.Org has published details of the “off-budget” EU funds of a substantial nature to which the UK has made large contributions, and which have never been included in the Treasury’s official “EU net contributions” figures.

It is disappointing, to say the least, that the BBC has not seen fit to investigate and report on these additional payments to the EU.

Observations

So the latest total admitted by HM Treasury for the UK’s net contributions to the EU for the tax year ended Apr 2019 is £11.2 billion.

By its own admission the pro-Remain Treasury does not include amounts paid to the EU by other government departments. We find this incredulous.

Given that Brexit has been the overriding topic in the country for over three years, readers might have hoped that the Treasury would actually present the full picture, so that the public were properly informed from an official source.

As it is, we have simply presented the Treasury’s official figures above. The true figure is significantly higher as we have previously demonstrated, but readers can quote the figure of £11.2 billion with complete confidence. The true figure is higher, but Remainers can hardly argue with the pro-Remain Treasury’s own official data.

£21 billion is approx £400 million per week gross.
£11 billion is approx £210 million per week net.
Whichever figure you choose to work with that is a load of nurses, doctors, teachers, schools, roads and infrastructure we don't have.

This endorses the, (already legally proven), claim that around £350 milion (gross, including contributions off the books) a week could have been be directed towards the NHS. Over to you Susanna Reid and the other idiotic, deluded, unpatriotic, traitorous, masochistic Remainers!

I read a report from an economist (unfortunately can't remember his name or find a link at this moment) that stated the following was paid in 2017 by the UK to the EU:
£10 billion - Net contribution / payment [now £11.2 billion as detailed above]
£10 billion - "Off-Budget" payments [as discussed above]
£30 billion - tarriff / VAT collections from imports outside of the EU (the UK get to keep 10% of gross collection to cover administrative costs - how nice of the EU!!)
So a total of £50 billion in payments to the EU every year - that's basically a Billion a week !!!!!!!!!!!!! Makes the £350 million side of bus figure look positively small !!
The last £30 billion figure is never mentioned even in pro-Brexit circles. Considering that UK government has discussed reducing or zeroing tarriffs if we were to go to WTO Terms then that £30 Billion would be a massive saving to the UK consumer.

The cry of the remainer, you (leaver) voted to make me poorer, whilst I (remainer) did not.
Untrue, I voted to save the UK and its Citizens the vast sums of money quoted here.
The UK is the second largest nett contributor after Germany.
The EU also takes 75% of the customs duties, agricultural duties and sugar levies collected by each member state when goods enter the customs union.
With these savings I am happy to leave without a deal on WTO.
The EU never intended to negotiate an FTA whilst we are in membership.

Anthony Mann:
firstly I am unable to confirm Facts4EU's figures. The previous year (FY 2017-18) contributions were £17.450bn gross and £8.773bn net, so there must've been a big increase in FY 2018-19, certainly in the gross contribution figure.
Second: I wish I could find a summary of off-budget payments, but from what I can see on this site, they do not add up to anything like £10bn a year. Unless someone can show me otherwise?
Third, your £30bn import tariff/VAT contribution is way too high. Anyway, I believe these are items within our gross contribution figure. According to this site, the gross contribution INCLUDING these items (?) is £21.0bn.
There seems to be a belief in some quarters that ALL our VAT goes to the EU. It does not, it is a tiny percentage of it (from memory about 0.4% or thereabouts). Anyway perhaps we will be clued up on that tomorrow.

An excellent well constructed article - well done Team.
Perhaps all readers may consider this - If we got an extra long red bus and placed three clear messages on its side saying:
"OFFICIAL - HM Treasury figures show the UK contributed £11.2 bn NET to the EU for the tax year ended Apr 2019"
The middle line may state: "The true figures exceed this amount - let us fund UK priorities instead"
The bottom line may state: "UK taxpayers subsidise the majority of EU member countries"
Wouldn't it be fun watching remain MPs, peers and remoaners trying to convince us it's all a lie, day after day after day, ad nauseam?
