Polish Supreme Court judges react with a plea to the world
Yesterday (Fri 30 Oct 2026), a police blockade was installed around Poland’s highest court in the land, the Supreme Court. The President of the Court issued a solemn statement and the Vice-President of the Court made a dramatic statement to the press.
Here is an extract from the official Supreme Court statement from the Court's President
“As the First President of the Supreme Court, I strongly condemn any attempt to subordinate the activities of the constitutional organs of the state to forceful actions or decisions taken outside the statutory legal order.
“The Republic of Poland is a democratic legal state, in which the limits of the operation of public authorities are determined by the Constitution and laws, not by ad hoc political decisions, official orders or demonstration of force. “Respect for these boundaries is not a matter of recognition, but an absolute duty of every public authority.
“Silence against actions undermining the independence of constitutional bodies means allowing practices that threaten the foundations of the political order of the Republic of Poland.
“Today, the subject of such actions is the Constitutional Court. Allowing similar practices, however, would mean creating a precedent that could be used against any other constitutional body of the state in the future.
“The authority of the state is built by the observance of the law, not by the demonstration of force.”

His colleague, the Deputy President of the Supreme Court went further, appealing from outside the court buildings on live TV to the World, saying "Please help us."
Even the Head of State - the President of the whole of Poland - has now intervened

“Last night, the constitutional order of the Republic of Poland was violated and a constitutional state body was taken over by force. I have held consultations with the First President of the Supreme Court, Zbigniew Kapiński, who likewise does not recognise as legal the actions taken by persons usurping power in the Constitutional Tribunal.
“I call for the restoration of the legal order and for the coercive forces sent there by the government to leave the Tribunal’s premises.”
“In view of the threat to the internal security of the Republic of Poland, I am convening urgent consultations today with representatives of the parliamentary groupings, aimed at stabilising the political situation and restoring the constitutional order.”

This sounds serious
Poland’s entire constitutional situation has been in a state of irregularity for some time. Now it appears that its government, led by former President of the EU Council, Donald Tusk, has instructed police to act against the highest constitutional court of the land.
For those readers who remember Mr Tusk’s regular, vindictive, and snide statements condemning the largest-ever democratic decision by the British people, (to leave the EU), this may not come as a big surprise.
“Special place in Hell” for Brexiteers
On 06 February 2019 while then EU Council President Tusk held a press conference in Brussels with Irish PM Leo Varadkar where he said there’s a “special place in hell” for Brexiteers. He then tweeted it out :
“I've been wondering what that special place in hell looks like, for those who promoted Brexit, without even a sketch of a plan how to carry it out safely.”

It should be noted that he did not do this from his personal Twitter account. This went out from the official EU Council President account, and as such it carried official weight. Remarkably there was no formal British government protest from Theresa May’s administration at the time.
