A video tribute to a unique force in British politics
A personal note from Facts4EU's Chairman
Like so many who knew the real Ann, for me this wasn’t about politics. Facts4EU remains non-partisan. She was simply a lovely, generous, warm-hearted soul with a wicked sense of humour and we got on well.
The video below wasn’t easy to produce. This was not because of the technical difficulties caused by no longer having sufficient funds to employ professional video producers, nor being unable to afford a licence for decent video-editing software. These didn't help, but the main problem was that this was an emotionally-charged piece of work for those of us involved.
As my colleague Ben Philips tells you below, what you are about to see starts with extracts from a film we made three years ago, which featured many of the most prominent faces involved in Brexit. Uniquely, however, I also decided to release clips from one of my private videos of chats with Ann. Never before seen, I hope the clips in the second half help to reveal the true person behind the public persona.
A chilling moment in this video tribute
The entire team went quiet watching one clip, recorded late last year from my collection. At my invitation, Ann talks briefly about the attacks on Reform UK by Labour. She refers to the possibility of this causing a heightened risk for key members of the party. At the time, I never thought for one moment this risk might involve the 78-year-old Ann, albeit that she was immigration and justice spokesperson for Reform UK. She was, of course, typically understated about it all, as you will see if you watch the video.

I have no explanation for why the camera lost focus at the point she spoke about this, before the picture spontaneously returned to normal. It only happened for around 15 seconds while she was talking about this danger. I wasn’t touching my keyboard and she hadn’t touched hers.
Technical note: Slick and professional this is not. Raw and authentic and not in HD, this was a labour of love in the very limited time available, and with our very scarce resources.

A tribute from CIBUK’s Deputy Chairman, Ben Philips
On behalf of The Campaign for an Independent Britain (CIBUK), Brexit Facts4EU, Stand for Our Sovereignty (SovereignUK.org), and to the millions of you who loved and respected her, we want to express our deepest sorrow and revulsion at the appalling death of Ann Widdecombe, which continues to reverberate across the country following that horrific event.
Ann was never anything other than true to her beliefs and she will be deeply missed for the wisdom and integrity she brought to the public space. Politics is undoubtedly poorer for her passing.
I was lucky enough to have met Ann on several occasions, not least in the making of a documentary three years ago to mark the seventh anniversary of the 2016 Referendum result in which she took part. Clips are included in the video tribute above.
Ann was not only an inspiration to millions, she was also an example of the very best kind of public servant this country so desperately needs. She will be mourned and missed in equal measure.
May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Observations
At all times in our conversations Ann knew she was being recorded, including the private conversations she used to have with our Chairman. When he once asked if we might use something from these conversations, the answer was blunt. “Dear boy, of course! If you think it would be in any useful then go ahead but I doubt anyone would be interested.”
It is a sad reflection on the modern era that there are those who have posted derogatory remarks on social media following her tragic death. Whilst our video tribute contains political content, this is only natural given our whole reason for being.
The intent of the video, however, is to give some insight into the phenomenon of our times that was the real Ann Widdecombe. If those of different socio-political persuasions cannot even be respectful at a time like this, it says more about them than we could ever say.
