‘Selling to Uncle Sam’ – We celebrate UK exporting 3 times more to U.S. than to EU’s No.1 (Germany)
“Basically I’m there also on trade,” said President Trump, so we remind Starmer what’s at stake

“Sir Keir, President Trump is more important than President Macron – please treat him accordingly”
The first State Visit organised fully under Sir Keir Starmer’s tenure as Prime Minister was afforded to President Macron in July. Like President Trump, he was treated to the full pomp and ceremony which only the United Kingdom and its Royal Family can truly produce. He stayed at Windsor Castle.
Unlike President Trump, the French President was also given the honour of addressing both Houses of Parliament, during which he made derogatory comments about Brexit. Whilst the US President has brushed this off this honour not being given to him, it is indicative of the pivot which Sir Keir has made to the EU, as exemplified in his ‘Reset’ which is producing more and more alignment with EU law.
“Basically I’m there also on trade,” President Trump said on his departure from the White House
Given that the U.S. President’s parting words to reporters from the White House were about trade, Brexit Facts4EU is presenting the latest figures on trade with the U.S., for 2024, including both goods and services.
“Basically I’m there also on trade. They want to see if they can refine the trade deal a little bit. We made a deal, and it’s a great deal, and I’m into helping them.”
“They’d like to see if they could get a little bit better deal.”

US market is worth over 3 times that of the EU’s largest – Stark economic facts for Starmer
The British Prime Minister has shown himself to be far more interested in aligning more closely with the EU than with the U.S.. He has also been ingratiating himself with the globalist community by giving away sovereignty of territory such as the Chagos Peninsula, allowing armed Spanish officers onto sovereign British soil in Gibraltar, and recognising Palestine as a state at the UN next week.
If President Trump is prepared to discuss improving the UK-US trade deal, which certainly does need serious improvement and extensions, then perhaps the following example of one of our famous ‘at-a-glance’ charts might focus the PM’s mind.

The PM might notice that only 11 EU countries appear in the UK’s Top 30 export markets, according to these latest official figures from the Office for National Statistics.
Looking at this remarkable chart, we are tempted to remind readers of that corny old management consultancy expression: "Interesting. Well let's run it up the flagpole and see who salutes..."
But this isn’t all about trade, another senior member of the Administration is on the trip
Accompanying the President on this important State Visit is Secretary Marco Rubio. He flew in separately yesterday, having been on a visit to Israel and Qatar in the past few days, where the situation in Gaza and the Middle East generally was discussed. Here is what he said just ahead of his arrival.
“Joining President Trump on his second State Visit to the UK—the only President to ever receive this honor.
“I plan to meet with Foreign Minister Cooper to talk about our two nations’ ongoing cooperation on a number of issues”.

On Monday we revealed we had been part of the effort to get a letter to the President’s advance party, something few can do. In it, our Stand for Our Sovereignty and CIBUK.Org colleagues drew the President’s attention to two key foreign policy issues: Chagos (and the Diego Garcia military base) and the PM’s intended recognition of a Palestinian State.
The first of these is the more important in terms of its effect on the British people, as it will severely weaken the projection of our military power, as well as that of the United States, if it is allowed to proceed.
“The UK government should welcome President Trump warmly by abandoning the expensive and dangerous idea of giving away the Chagos islands including Diego Garcia a key joint US/UK base. The money saved could be spent on a bigger UK contribution to NATO defence. The US is by far our biggest export market and biggest provider of inward investment.
“The PM needs to propose lower tariffs and more mutually beneficial business activity rather than picking fights over foreign policy with our most important ally. Facts4EU once again highlight the truth by showing how we need the US more than France for growth and defence.”
- The Rt Hon Sir John Redwood, former Secretary of State, former Single Market Minister, 17 Sept 2025

Observations
Despite the Prime Minister’s clear focus on the EU and on matters of international law, the State Visit of the U.S. President is an important event for the British people on a number of levels. On trade, there is an opportunity to build considerably on what is fundamentally a weak trade deal. As this is not an area of expertise for Sir Keir, we can only hope he has good people with him when that discussion comes up.
One of the other key areas involves the new Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, and US Secretary Marco Rubio. We very much hope the subject of the Government’s proposed surrender of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, an ally of China, Russia and Iran, is high on the agenda.
