Farage also inspired 7,400 more people to turn out and vote in his constituency, compared with Starmer
With so many extraordinary results in the 2024 general election, one result in particular was overlooked… Except by Facts4EU, of course. In their respective constituencies of Clacton (Essex) and Holborn (London), Nigel Farage beat Sir Keir Starmer in the number of votes he won and in the number of voters he inspired to turn out and cast their ballot on the day.
On Wednesday as Nigel Farage triumphantly renewed his friendship with President Trump in the Oval Office, Sir Keir Starmer was fighting to keep his latest Cabinet crisis from descending into chaos. On the plane back to London, the Leader of Reform UK will doubtless have been working on his conference speeches set for today and tomorrow.
Meanwhile the PM was presumably weighing up all the possible consequences and outcomes of his Deputy being forced to quit. He will barely have had time to register the latest opinion poll which was published yesterday, showing Nigel Farage's party set to trounce Labour (and the Conservatives) at the next General Election with a commanding 13-point lead.

Inspiring the voters?
The shoe-in for British Prime Minister only just persuaded more than 50% of eligible voters in his constituency even to turn out on election day. 38,602 went to the polling station – or voted by post – in Holborn.
By contrast the man who is the bookies' favourite to become Britain's next Prime Minister inspired 45,958 to vote in Clacton. Nigel Farage attracted 7,356 more voters in Clacton than Sir Keir did in Holborn and St Pancras, and this represents 19.1% more people exercising their democratic rights than in the PM’s constituency.

Winning hearts and minds
Regardless of readers’ political allegiances, it must be said that for Mr Farage to come from nowhere to win more votes in Clacton than Mr Starmer managed to secure in his established Holborn constituency is an impressive achievement.
The PM started from a base of 36,641 votes in the 2019 general election. His voter numbers almost halved in 2024, to 18,884. Only part of this drop can be attributed to the effect of the constituency boundaries being redrawn in the 2023 Boundary Commission review.
Each Leader’s personal majority
Given their relative starting positions, naturally Sir Keir Starmer won a larger personal majority than Nigel Farage, by 11,572 to 8,405. That said, Mr Farage’s majority of 8,405 came from nothing whereas Mr Starmer had been the local Holborn MP for nearly 10 years at that point, since 2005.
To win at all, Nigel Farage had to overturn a ‘rock-solid’ Conservative majority of 24,702 achieved at the 2019 election. He not only overturned this but also secured an impressive majority on top.
Observations
As ever, we reiterate our non-partisan stance. Our political analyses and reflections on the UK scene are driven by our core principles of independence, sovereignty, democracy and freedoms - and a full Brexit.
As the Reform UK Conference 2025 starts and Nigel Farage will be focusing on the national picture, the Facts4EU team felt his personal victory in Clacton was worthy of mention given there was very little mainstream media attention paid to this last year. Whether this result turns out to be significant in the years to come will have to be seen.
From an objective viewpoint, what we can say for now is that from a pure leadership point of view - and putting all political elements to the side - it is a little like looking at Mr Rock Star versus Mr Charisma Bypass. If star quality were the deciding factor in election results, then the next would be a foregone conclusion.
