Father Ted creator Graham Linehan falls foul of what Facts4EU first warned about 8 years ago
Comic writer arrested by armed police at airport over tweets, banned from using ‘X’ (Twitter)
Which authoritarian society is this? Thank goodness it could never happen in Britain. Oh, wait….

Finally Starmer does U-turn and contradicts his last advice to the police
By now, almost all readers will be aware that an Irish comic writer was met at Heathrow on Monday by five armed police officers, arrested over three tweets he had made, and subsequently held and questioned. The stress of his treatment sent his blood pressure to 200, putting him in hospital. He was finally bailed on the condition that he did not use ‘X’, the social media platform. He will be interviewed again in October.
Why is Facts4EU writing about this?
Each time Facts4EU writes about a topic which, on the face of it, has little to do with the UK’s relations with the EU or the rest of the world, there are always a few whose response is to deflect by saying this is none of our business.
Our article today has been written for two reasons. Firstly, with Nigel Farage addressing a congressional committee this afternoon on the subject of freedom of speech, the events at Heathrow are directly related to the UK’s relations with the rest of the world. Secondly, we have always written about really important issues which impact on our core principles of independence, sovereignty, democracy, and freedoms.
Sir Keir Starmer tries to undo the damage he did in the Lucy Connelly case
It was only one year ago that Sir Keir Starmer was issuing threats on X (Twitter) about online ‘offences’. Here he is on 09 August 2024 :
“Thanks to our police forces, those who participate in violence online and offline will face the full force of the law.”
Violence online? Perhaps he was referring to some new offence of hitting the keys with excessive force when typing a social media post?
In her interview with the Telegraph’s Alison Pearson, the mother and childminder Lucy Connelly described how the Prime Minister set the tone for the police and the judiciary with X posts urging them to ‘throw the book’ at anyone who made a single post (as in her case), landing her with a 31 month prison sentence.
Yesterday there was no X post (tweet) from the PM. Instead his spokesman told the media:
“This is an operational matter for the police, but the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary have been clear about what their priorities on crime and policing are: that’s tackling antisocial behaviour, shoplifting and street crime as well as reducing serious violent crime such as knife crime and violence against women.”
‘Gone off the rails’?
A young, first-time offender is sometimes described as ‘a good kid who temporarily went off the rails’. Unfortunately as someone whose job it was to lead the way on cases brought to trial in the country as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Sir Keir cannot enter this into his defence for his behaviour last year.
Yesterday Sir Keir moved from his “smash the gangs” motif in relation to illegal migrants to an X post stating :
Coming after his government has just won an appeal to keep the Bell open as a migrant hotel in Epping, this is another example of ‘New Tier Keir’, from the former international rights lawyer.“I want to see every asylum hotel closed.”
Back to the end of the Line(ham)
Returning to the case of Graham Lineham, and the police state that confronted him after his plane touched down at Heathrow, this is another example of just how distanced the Establishment and its apparatus are from the central beliefs of the general public.
It is, sadly, an inevitable consequence of the warnings which we published all the way back in 2017, eight years ago. Long before the Free Speech Union and other groups formed, Facts4EU had been ploughing its own furrow in sounding the alarm. We researched and published chapter and verse on what you could now be arrested for, as well as describing the mentality of those involved in cemented deranged thinking into the products of training schools of all kinds, particularly police academies.
As Graham Lineham wrote the popular ‘Father Ted’ series on television, we can only hope the oxygen of publicity will be strong enough to make the issue of freedom of speech as talked about as migrant hotels.
Please help us to keep going with a donation today. We rely wholly on patriotic members of the public to survive and right now our survival beyond year end is in doubt.
Don't leave this to someone else. You are that 'someone else'.
Observations
Over the years Facts4EU has stuck its neck out on many occasions and on what were – at the time – unpopular opinions to hold and campaigns to fight. Each time we did so, we lost regular donors. On each occasion we have subsequently been proved right. Unfortunately this has not helped our dwindling income which is now at a level where no ordinary organisation would continue.
It has been our hope that the new awakening of the public to the complete mismatch between their common sense beliefs and the warped ideologies present in so many bodies affecting our lives, from the overall Government itself, to the Home Office and its border control, to policing, to our judiciary, to our schools and much more besides, might provoke a willingness to support those like us who have batted these things for years.
Unfortunately that has not so far been the case.
Coming tomorrow...
A BIG report for you all, which GB News will be covering. Absolutely not to be missed. It has taken weeks to assemble and may well be the last such big report we produce.
Please, please help us to carry on our vital work in defence of independence, sovereignty, democracy and freedom by donating today. Thank you.
