Yesterday Facts4EU.Org was hot news on Britain’s favourite news channel: GB News. This came about as a result of our highly popular and talked-about report using the EU’s own auditors’ figures to show how much bigger Rachel Reeves’ budget ‘black hole’ would have been, if the UK had not left the EU.

At one point the question was asked: “Why are you disinterring Brexit?” The implied sub-text was that somehow we still wanted to glory in having won the EU Referendum, nine years ago. The question came about because Martin Daubney, the presenter, asked GBN's Political Editor to ask about our report and this segment of the show on Lobby terms in Downing Street - inspired. Needless to say the spokesperson was unable to offer a response to our report, given that it was all based on the EU auditors' official figures.

Well, we have some additional news for Rejoiners today.

If the democratic result of the Referendum had been immediately honoured by all concerned, we would all have gone back to our day jobs long ago. And – in the case of the entire Brexit Facts4EU.Org team – we would all have been a great deal better off by now.

The simple fact is that unreconstructed Rejoiners won’t let sleeping dogma lie

With perfect timing, yesterday a major political daily magazine published the results of a survey of the British public it had commissioned, asking people to choose whether they preferred “Britain’s immigration policy prior to leaving the European Union” or “Britain’s current immigration policy, implemented since leaving the European Union.”

Now Brexit is to blame for uncontrolled immigration

The predictable opening read:

“Brits voted for Brexit because of immigration. Now they want to turn back the clock.
“By a whopping two-to-one margin, voters now favor [sic] the pre-2021 immigration system to the one that has taken shape since leaving the EU, according to striking new polling…”

The article ran on in this vein for many paragraphs, before eventually starting to admit that its headline may not be truly representative of what the polling was saying. A research manager at the polling company was quoted as saying that the results are unlikely to be a reflection of people “wistfully looking back at a time of free movement.”

A spokesman for a green think-tank was interviewed, commenting “The overall preference for the pre-Brexit system is most likely the combined result of, on the one hand, the long-standing cohort of Remain supporters continuing to back a pro-EU position, alongside a wider frustration with recent immigration policy, including among those who voted leave.”

So, very few like the current level of immigration, but it has nothing to do with Brexit

People know from their own experience that they often only have time to scan headlines, and to read some of an article. A typical reader of the article we refer to would have to be very interested to read down to the point where the entire premise of the polling is questioned. The majority of readers would have gone away with the impression that Brexit is once again at fault – this time for allowing immigration to rise to such unacceptable levels.

It is this kind of relentless Rejoinerism which is the reason the Brexit Facts4EU.Org team is – just about – still fighting. And in answer to the question in our own headline – “Why are we disinterring Brexit?” - it is precisely because Rachel Reeves has intimated that Brexit is to blame for her need to break her promises and raise taxes in the budget next month that we researched and published the article which was so popular yesterday.

Why. Because Brexit over promised and has under delivered. It was sold through a very strong campaign that appealed to emotion and nostalgia that very effectively dismissed the warnings but had no strategy behind it. It was up against a very weak campaign that was technocratic.

This reflects an issue with current politics, it has become more popularism and people expect there to be instant results.

Recent polling has seen a gradual and continual decline in support for Brexit reaching a level where main politicians are starting to talk more opened about the economic damage of Brexit. It now looks like the OBR is about to say that the 4% hit to the UK economy has been an understatement.

Brexitears will try to distance immigration from Brexit but the timing of the record breaking rise in immigration since we left the EU won't allow that message to wash.

GB News is a key promoter of Brexit but GB News cant be trusted. Even recent claims by GB News to be number one news channel in July were shown to be some clever spin of stats based on share. The reality is that in July GB News reached 3.8million whilst BBC News reached 8.57 million and Sky News 7.51 million. BBC News Channel does not include programmes such as News at Six.

What you are saying does not make any sense. The latest MRP poll (Sept 2025) of 7,400 people said if there was election today Reform would win 36% of the vote and a 367 seats given them a clear majority. Are you claiming these people want to be in the EU ? In the last election the "Rejoin EU Party" received 0.03% of the vote despite receiving huge amounts of funding. They were only slightly more popular than the "Monster Raving Loony Party".

Yesterday the German Chancellor Fredrich Merz made the following speech:

"Europe will lose its independence to global economic giants if its leaders don't act rapidly to restore competitiveness"

"This is crucial for the future of our country and the countries of Europe, because in the coming weeks, months and perhaps within a few years, it will be decided whether Europe will remain an independent economic power in the global economy or whether we will become a pawn of the major economic centers in Asia or America,”

A couple of weeks before this his headline was:

"Friedrich Merz on Friday said he wants to put a “stick in the wheels” of the EU’s legislative machine, railing against overregulation by officials in Brussels."

He is saying what Facts4EU was saying years ago. He is sounding more and more like Nigel Farage than Kier Starmer.

We returned control of our borders to our own government.
It is incumbent on that government to exercise that control.

We gave the government the ability to disapply the ECHR from UK law by leaving the EU treaty that mandated it's inclusion.

That it hasn't done so is a failure of government, not Brexit.

It's not Facts4EU that is "disinterring" Brexit.
The new Labour spin guy is advising the cabinet to blame Brexit for their failings, especially on the tax increases and immigration.
So it is Labour that is disinterring Brexit.
Personally I would prefer that Facts4EU sticks to its core purpose instead of being a generally anti-Labour group. I am pleased that Brexit has been disinterred on this site.

3 NH. I haven't mentioned Reform. However a poll of more than 4,000 people by YouGov on behalf of Best for Britain in December, found that people who voted Reform UK at the last election support deepening EU-UK ties in crucial areas. Seven in ten (70%) want the government to remove trade barriers between the EU and UK with four in five in favour of greater cooperation to tackle crime and reduce illegal channel crossings (80% and 81% respectively). Around half are in favour of both a new defence pact with the EU (52%) and a Youth Mobility Scheme (49%) compared to the 36% and 38% respectively who are opposed.

Reform is currently a protest vote. It will be interesting to see how they come at the next GE, in 3 years. Hopefully the Cons will have got their act together by then but will still be suffering from the fallout from Liz Truss.

Brexit NEVER promised it would be easy.
Liam Fox stated that a deal with the EU SHOULD be easy, but probably WOULDN'T because of EU POLITICS

Why would you believe we'd be in favour of a youth mobility scheme with the EU when the youth of the UK actively demonstrated THEY weren't, by travelling to Anglosphere countries instead.
Why would you believe that we would want to open our jobs market to EU youths, when our own would want to enter that market?

Labour's victory at the last election WAS the protest vote.
Voters rejected the Tories NOT because they had delivered Brexit, but rather because they were perceived not to have done.
Best for Britain is really Best for Soros, and in it's echo chamber it will get the responses IT desires.

More pertinently, right of centre Eurosceptic parties (Reform & Conservative) currently account for around half of current voting intentions.
And it's worth noting that the EU Lib Dems have haemorrhaged it's membership this year.

So you don't have any independent source of information. Over half of YouGov's business is regulated by the EU and they have a lucrative annual contract paid from EU funds. Best for Britain is a self declared rejoin EU organisation.

Unlike you I don't claim to know why each person is supporting the Reform Party. I do know that the Labour Party has lost over 200,000 members since Kier Starmer became their leader, most of the rest seem to be auto-enrolled by their Union. The Conservative Party seem too embarrassed to publish their membership figures and the Reform Party have over 260,000 members, most gained since the election.

The results of the next General Election will be interesting but I suspect we may not have to wait 3 years for it. The party you voted for will be inflicting a great deal of economic damage to the UK and UK public before then. I am sure that will make you very happy !

If course Brexit has had a significant negative impact on the UK economy, though the effects have been gradual rather than the ‘falling of the cliff’ as predicted by some Remainers. But then again, Brexit was never about the economy, right?
Brexit has made the UK more economically fragile and more vulnerable to disruptions.
