For months now news items have been appearing showing Sir Keir Starmer’s government has agreed to align with the EU on one relatively small item after another, usually dressed up in highly technical language. However no-one has been able to prove that the government intends full alignment with EU regulations in any one industry…. UNTIL NOW.

In a stunning revelation shared exclusively with GB News, the new Stand for Our Sovereignty organisation backed by us, Brexit Facts4EU, has obtained proof that one of Britain’s most vital industries — automotive — is being forced to abandon UK regulations and fully align with EU rules. This seismic shift, just years after Brexit promised regulatory freedom, marks a dramatic U-turn with far-reaching consequences.

This presents a major blow to British industry, and a likely surge in prices for consumers — on a scale that will be felt profoundly across the country.

Neither Richard Tice, Suella Braverman nor Jim Allistair have ever worked in our car industry … yet they claim to know what is best for our car industry.
Should Stand for our Sovereignty, Facts4EU and GB News not ask what the UK car industry needs instead of saying what they themselves want?

Ford do not manufacture vehicles in the UK they manufacture in low cost countries (Romania, Turkey, Spain) and import them into the UK so they have an interest in having a single set of regulations. In the UK they manufacture diesel engines, transmissions, EV systems and they have large R&D facilities.

All major car companies are multi national companies and they can make there own decisions on weather they want to follow EU regulations it does not need Government involvement. Most sensible companies will not make public statements on Government policy unless they are being encouraged to by UK or EU Governments for fear of retribution.

This reveals the fallacy of Brexit. Cars are the UK’s largest product export at £31.3 billion. The EU is the largest region the UK exports to. UK cars will be made to EU standards anyway, the UK will not go a separate way. The EU recently introduced “ISA Intelligent Speed Assistance” to new vehicles. These will be fitted to UK cars as well.

Other examples are the tethered caps on drinks bottles and mobile phone charging. Brexit has been a waste of time and money. Probably the most significant economic damage of Brexit has been the uncertainty which has held back investment and held back improvements in productivity.

That is an assumption (specifically your assumption), not a fact. Many companies speak out publicly against government policies that have a negative impact on their businesses.

Perhaps the gentleman from Ford should advocate that all cars built and sold in the UK be left hand drive.

Can anyone point me to statements by the British car manufacturer industry where they mention this government policy as a ‘major blow’.
And can anyone point me to a statement by consumer representatives where they mention that this government policy will result in ‘a likely surge in prices for consumers’?
The only statements shared by Facts4EU and Stand for Our Sovereignty are from Richard Tice, Suella Braverman and Jim Allister … hardly representatives for the car manufacturing industry or consumers.

You are completely missing the point !
The UK has a history of innovation and there used to be a huge number of small car companies making innovative vehicles that customers liked. Jensen. Lotus, TVR, Ginetta, Bristol, Scimitar, Marcos, Nova, AC Aerial, Noble, Caterham, Westfield, etc etc. Most of these were forced out of business by huge amounts of regulation that they could not afford to comply with. The only remaining ones are making extremely expensive cars that the vast majority of people can not afford.

The guy that started Triumph motorcycles was a property developer that came to an auction to knock the old triumph factory down. He realised the potential and restarted the factory. They now make approx. 150,000 motorcycles a year, not far behind BMW. He could not do this in the car market because of all the regulations. If you can ride a 200 mph motorbike in the UK why do we need masses of regulations on impact protection and everything else for niche car companies ? The larger car companies can continue to comply with EU regulations for the export market. Tesla started just over 20 years ago making a car based on the Lotus Elise manufactured in Norfolk. Now they are a $1 Trillion company. All large car companies started as small companies !

It's based on my knowledge of companies and how their PR departments work. They will normally only criticise Governments publicly when all else fails. The quote you have quoted from Ford was made in June 2023. He justified his claim by saying their are 3 regulatory environments for automotive, USA, Europe and Japan.

Two years later China is now the largest manufacturer of vehicles in the world, he clearly did not see that coming. China achieved that by being innovative !
.
Ford USA has recently had to inject $4.8 Billion into it's European operations to stop them going bankrupt, but the Unions still believe there is a big risk of bankruptcy in the next couple of years.
