What does 2nd-Year Keir have in store for us all?

Ahead of the anniversary we look back in anger before we can look forward

A few lowlights, how the trend is not our friend, and an update on Chagos

Nine months ago this week we first wrote about the Starmer Government’s plans to surrender sovereignty over the Chagos Islands. At the time our news was that the Government had made an announcement the previous day (Thurs, 03 Oct 2025) ”while Parliament was in recess and no debate was possible.”

The statement concerned a decision that the UK had decided to give up sovereignty over a strategically important asset in the Indian Ocean: The British Indian Ocean Territory which includes the Chagos Islands.

We described it as “a catastrophic blunder” and went on to say:

”We understand this will be subject to an Opposition debate on Tuesday next week, as it involves an international treaty. Unfortunately the Government’s majority – which includes new MPs who are scarcely likely to know the first thing about the importance of the United Kingdom’s geo-military-political assets – will ensure that Sir Keir’s decision will stand.

“As with Sir Keir’s apparent naivete in negotiating with the EU, so it seems he is equally naïve about the threat from dictatorial Chinese Communist Party ruled by Xi-Jinping. By the time this decision starts to affect us all, the PM will be in the House of Lords alongside his very generous friend Lord Alli. But be in no doubt: affect us this will.”

And then there’s Brexit… or rather, re-joining the European Union by stealth

In this same article nine months go we stated Sir Keir was “Giving up on any pretence of respecting Brexit and delivering its benefits while quoting from a meeting he held with Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels. It was at this meeting he laid the groundwork for his ‘EU Reset’ meeting in London months later, where he gave in to almost everything the EU asked, whilst receiving absolutely nothing in return.

Nine months ago – 90 days into his premiership – it was already obvious to us that his administration was embarked on a radical agenda which was going to involve secret, behind-closed-doors meetings, and deals which simply surrendered UK sovereignty as if it were something shameful, to be disposed of as quickly and quietly as possible.

A few months later we were the prime movers in setting up ‘The UK Fisheries Campaign’, feeling that this was likely to be a convenient target for Sir Keir. So it proved. At the ‘EU Re-Set Summit’, he gave away the UK’s waters for a further 12 years, receiving absolutely nothing in return. This disaster was never discussed in advance with the industry and was another ‘back-room deal’.

Below is another chance to watch the short, gripping film we produced about an incident when a German-flagged and Spanish-captained boat tried to run a British boat off from fishing in UK waters. If you haven't seen it, you should. The full story is here but otherwise click on the film below.

Yesterday: Lords approve motion to give away sovereignty over our laws in the entire United Kingdom

Following our battle over the ‘Marking of Retail Goods Regulations 2025’ – a story which Facts4EU is proud to have broken and which has only been picked up by GB News – we reported that this had been put to a vote on Monday night ”with no debate possible.

Readers may be picking up a trend here.

Well, last night that process completed when the Lords approved the motion – this time without even taking a vote. The motion itself was not even on the Order Paper. An EU Regulation, written in Brussels two years after Brexit and only applying to the UK and to no other country, can now be enforced in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

We started this report with the Chagos Islands, so let’s complete the circle

In February this year it was Facts4EU that broke the story that the PM of Mauritius, with whom Sir Keir and Foreign Secretary David Lammy has been negotiating the sellout – had just been arrested on corruption charges.

We also showed how there was in fact no legal case whatsoever for giving up the UK’s sovereignty of the Chagos Archipelago.

A month ago we ran a story on the appeal that had been launched by the Chagossians with the help of Claire Bullivant at the Conservative Post & Reformer and CEO of the Great British PAC, and Ben Habib, Chairman of the same. They have turned the tables on Sir Keir, by using his own love of international law to block him at every opportunity.

Below is the start of the Conservative Post & Reformer's latest article about this, which we recommend reading in full.

Chagossian Legal Challenge Clears Key Hurdle as High Court Fast-Tracks Case Against Government

“If Keir Starmer had any sense, scrapping the Chagos Surrender Treaty would be his next u-turn” – Dame Priti Patel.

The legal battle to ensure Chagossians are lawfully consulted before the UK Government signs away sovereignty of their homeland has cleared a major first hurdle in the High Court.

The Judicial Review, launched by Chagossian claimant Louis Misley Mandarin with support from the Great British PAC, has been formally accepted by the court and granted an expedited timetable.

This means the Government must now file its legal defence by 4 July, drastically shortening its usual 28-day window. A High Court judge is expected to review the matter around 11 July, potentially triggering a full hearing by the end of the month.

In his written order, the judge recognised the exceptional urgency and quality of the case, citing the “very detailed grounds and a 1,689-page bundle” submitted by the claimants, a clear signal that the Court is taking the matter seriously.

The case argues that the UK Government has acted unlawfully by failing to consult Chagossians before entering sovereignty negotiations with Mauritius. The claim invokes the Equality Act 2010, international law, and principles of administrative fairness to assert that the Chagossian people, recognised by the UK as British citizens and a distinct ethnic group, have a legal right to be heard before any decision is made on their homeland.

Claire Bullivant, CEO of the Great British PAC, said:

“This is a huge step forward. The courts have recognised the urgency and importance of this case. We now call on Parliament to suspend any process related to Chagos sovereignty until the Court has ruled. Justice demands no less."

Louis Misley Mandarin, claimant and Chagossian, added:

“We are fighting to be heard, not ignored again. Our people deserve consultation, not secrecy.”

This court case could be the bloody battle that fatally weakens the Government’s plan to give away the islands, but campaigners are clear that the war will be won with the hearts and minds of the public, and crucially, of backbench Labour MPs. They are being urged to recognise that this is a deal done without the consent of the Chagossians, and at considerable financial cost, at a time when public services and benefits are under strain.

“How can Labour justify this huge cost of billions when they say we don’t have money for schools, the NHS, or social care? How can they possibly justify this deal when their own manifesto talks about championing prosperity through foreign policy?” Bullivant added. “This is not prosperity, it’s an unjust, unaffordable handover made without proper consultation.”

Observations

As we approach “2nd Year Keir”, here’s something to think about

Facts4EU either broke - or was in the very first vanguard of - every important story for the future of the sovereignty of our country months before each became mainstream news.

Our latest is the Stand for Our Sovereignty campaign, which has exploded on social media. It seems we have once again anticipated events and the public mood. In the two days leading up to the Commons vote on surrendering powers to the EU, we hit more voters than in an average two month period. And that was without any media coverage. Now some of the media are starting to cover our work.

If you have never donated to us, and you would like us to be here tomorrow, please do something right now. With the dangers this country is facing, we believe it would be a disaster if we did not continue to highlight these well in advance and start to do something about them. This simply can’t be done without funding. Has anyone got £300,000?

Please, please help us to carry on our vital work in defence of independence, sovereignty, democracy and freedom by donating today. Thank you.
