Summary of the UK’s reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, with international comparisons

If Net Zero is going to impoverish us all - as seems likely - we should first know the facts. Given the costs, does the sum of the parts deliver, or will it all equal net zero (or much worse) for the public?

When the UK Government first started signing up to global agreements on the reduction in greenhouse gases, for most people this was an abstract concept which seemed to be a good idea they could support. When the Government went on to put this into law and set limits and actual dates by which these must be achieved, this was viewed in similar fashion.

Today, Government actions are having a direct and quantifiable effect on people’s lives

Accordingly, the Brexit Facts4EU.Org think-tank is updating some of our previous reports on this subject.

Given that this affects the ongoing ‘cost of living crisis’, we are putting this into context and summarising where the UK stands compared to the EU and to the rest of the world’s worst polluters.

As part of this Net Zero series we will go on to look at the recent actions of the current government, and in particular those of the hard-green, hot-climate, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Milliband.

In these reports we will provide information on three major issues

The truth about the UK's tiny 'carbon footprint'

Various figures have been bandied about concerning the proportion of the world's greenhouse gas emissions which are attributable to the United Kingdom. Most people know it is very small, but it is always preferable to be able to quote the correct figure. Below we provide the most up-to-date data.

The UK is responsible for just 0.73% of all global emissions of greenhouse gases

Greenhouse gas emissions include carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide from all sources, including land-use change. They are measured in tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalents over a 100-year timescale.

The UK leads the World in cutting greenhouse gases per capita

Our chart above relates to overall tonnages of greenhouse gases. In order to make a more meaningful international comparison of how much more the UK has done than other countries in reducing its carbon footprint, we must take away the effect of population size. Below we show exactly that and are presenting the data per capita.

Using the same time frame as above, (the 20 years from 2003-2023), here are the percentage reductions for the UK and some other major countries and groupings.

Observations

The Facts4EU.Org think-tank summarises the facts to inform the public debate

In the summer of 1940, the "accepted science" was that Britain was finished. All the data showed that the country could not possibly withstand the military might of the German Third Reich. The US Ambassador at the time was absolutely clear about this in his official advice to Washington. The only small fly in the ointment was that no-one had told the British they were 'through'....

When looking at our summary of the data above, it should be noted that not all scientists agree with the "accepted science". We have, however, used the data which is accepted by the majority of the world's scientists - for a good reason.

We have shown, based on the accepted, official data, how the UK has outperformed all other major countries in its reduction of greenhouse gases, which are alleged to be the principal cause of climate change.

"Just Stop Millie"?

The UK’s impact on the global figures for atmospheric emissions is so small that it qualifies in statistical terms as no more than a rounding error. If the UK did nothing further about its emissions, the lack of any action would not show up in any meaningful global charts.

The stance which successive UK governments have taken this century have almost nothing to do with the country’s global effect on any claims of ‘climate change’. The justification for the dramatic re-shaping of key sections of our industrial presence and the dramatic increase in our energy bills have instead been all about ‘Britain leading the way’. As this is now coming at gargantuan cost, it is appropriate to look at the UK’s performance compared to the EU’s and the world’s worst polluters.

We now have a Net Zero Minister in Ed Milliband whose views, it must be said, verge on being at the extreme margins of opinion among the climate change lobby. Some might argue that "Britain has done its bit" and suggest that the Government should now hit the pause button, and wait for the rest of the World to catch up.

Having set out the current position, in our next report we will look at an uncomfortable truth for Mr Milliband - one which questions the the whole rationale of Government policy. We suggest readers may find the next report very interesting indeed...

I doubt that NetZero will survive Trump. It certainly won't survive the coming Reform UK government.

If you keep it simple. The Earth's atmosphere contains 0,04% Co2. a trace gas. The UK contributes <1% of that. In order to remove that 1% Milliband and Co. have to continue to destroy any last remaining industry. He also needs to erect hundreds more wind turbines. Cover more open land with solar panels and erect thousands of miles of transmission lines on pylons. Having done all that, the cost will be measured in many trillions of pounds.
Unfortunately, when there's no wind or indeed too much wind, the turbines don't work. When the sun doesn't shine solar doesn't work. So he will have to revert to fossil fuel to keep the lights on and keep us warm. All coal power stations have gone, only gas remains. (plus one wood burning !!! power station) He won't extract our gas/oil so he'll have to import it, increasing Co2 by doing so. Leaving us at the whim of foreign governments. No new nuclear is on the horizon and i suspect Milliband doesn't like it anyway.
This idiocy will impoverish the UK. Lead to deaths from the cold and achieve nothing. Because by the time Milliband has done all this, China/India/The far East and USA will have increased their contributions to global Co2 many times over, completely negating our 'saving'
And of course Co2 is a vital gas for the growth of plants, removing it will damage the Earth's green lungs.
Net zero = Net lunacy. It really is time to awaken to the realty of this nonsense

Sadly the consequences of Net Zero and other Labour party policies are already starting to show up in the UK economic figures with the UK's net international investment position, which has rapidly reduced from a large surplus to a huge deficit in Q3 2024. Money is flowing out of the UK and costs are flowing into the UK and the Labour party seem to be oblivious to this.

Net Zero is turning lucrative exports into very costly imports. The consequences on industry will be devastating. Experienced industrialists are saying "we are witnessing the extinction of our major industries as they have the life squeezed out of them" but nobody seems to be listening.

Every single Labour Government, since the Labour party was formed, has resulted in an economic crisis of one form or another. Some of these may not have been totally their fault but most have. If this Government does not change course we are heading for another economic crisis.

The Department for Energy, Security, and Net Zero in Whitehall has been left in the dark after a power cut this morning, leaving civil servants trapped in a blackout. No electricity, no water, no Wi-Fi—some of them are even stuck in lifts, and staff can’t get out of the building.
A fitting tribute to the department’s supposed expertise in energy management…

Red Ed’s building isn’t the only one hit. The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology is also caught in the outage.
Perhaps there isn’t enough wind to power the place today…

Climate sceptics as well as Brexitears. Have a look at Wiki, climate change or CO2 or the planet Venus. Even a bit of a look at the Carboniferous period.

Clearly UK doing well but decline a partly due to decline in manufacturing whilst we import so much from and taking advantage of China and India’s cheap labour which isn’t taken into account.
