EU’s Foreign Office raided by Belgian Federal police, ex-Vice President charged with fraud and corruption
“Appears a very target rich environment,” says US State Dept, seeing Facts4EU’s past exposés

EU’s equivalent of David Lammy charged with fraud, as yet more EU corruption uncovered
Late last week the European Public Prosecutor’s Office charged the EU’s former Vice President and head of foreign affairs and security with fraud, corruption, and conflict of interest. This followed raids on the offices of the EU Commission, rocking staff who have already see numerous corruption enquiries affecting everyone from EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen down.
This is the first time the Federal Police were involved and charges have been brought – against ex-Communist Federica Mogherini, former EU Foreign Secretary, and her former staff. Given her close association with autocratic, Communist Cuba, the US took an interest.
US Deputy Secretary of State compliments British friends
The US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, on being shown Facts4EU’s previous research into Ms Mogherini’s questionable background and her relations with the terrorist-supporting state of Iran by our friends at Scots for Leave, immediately commented:
“Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Appears that this is a very target rich environment.”
- Christopher Landau, US Deputy Secretary of State, 04 Dec 2025

We first knew of this corruption enquiry from the EPPO, who announced that searches were being carried out at the College of Europe in Bruges (Rector: Ms Mogherini) and the EU’s ‘European External Action Service’ in Brussels, as part of a probe into suspected fraud. This was an inter-agency operation involving the EU’s anti-fraud office and led by the EPPO in Brussels. Initially three suspects were detained but were subsequently released as they were not considered a flight risk.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the competent Belgian courts of law.
Mogherini’s home searched – a UK context
At the same time, Ms Mogherini’s home was searched, along with those of the other suspects, using the formal services of the Federal Police. At issue is a procurement project and we understand the investigation is focusing on article 169 of the EU’s Financial Regulations, amongst others.
It is worth putting this into a UK context. It is as though someone previously holding David Lammy’s position in his former role as Foreign Secretary, and his current role as Deputy Prime Minister, together with the role of Defence Secretary, had had his home raided and been charged with corruption and fraud. Federica Mogherini was a very powerful person in the EU indeed. Naturally this starts to open questions about her activities over the five years she was in power.
The US was unimpressed with ex-Communist Ms Mogherini’s role in Communist Cuba
Returning to the US Deputy Secretary of State, here is what he had to say about Ms Mogherini’s role in Cuba:
“This is the same person, incidentally, who characterized Communist Cuba as a “one-party democracy” and fostered European investment, tourism, and trade that propped up the island’s repressive and stridently anti-American regime.”
- Christopher Landau, US Deputy Secretary of State, 04 Dec 2025

Mr Landau is quoting from her late 2016 EU report where she uses those words: “one-party democracy” – an extraordinary expression. There is no question but that the EU’s Vice President showed a disproportionate interest in the small island of Cuba, just off America’s southern coast. The EU spent several years negotiating and agreeing a ‘Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement’ between the EU and Cuba.
Below is Ms Mogherini clearly feeling at home in Communist Cuba and enjoying herself, on a visit to the island in 2018. The well-catalogued human rights abuses committed by the "one-party democracy" state apparatus do not seem to be troubling her during this visit.

Human rights activists in Cuba held her responsible for the transfer of €50m from the EU for no return in relaxing the appalling human rights record of that country. They also point to her visits to the island, of which we still have pictures

Islam-qualified Ms Mogherini’s role in supporting the broken Iranian nuclear deal
Over the years, Facts4EU.Org was alone – as far as we know – in constantly pointing out Ms Mogherini’s support for the Iranian regime and for the broken anti-nuclear deal which Iran was clearly breaching
In addition, the complicity of the EU (and US President Barack Obama) in the ability of Iran to fund terrorist attacks through proxies such as the Houthis against the West is something we warned about years ago. This became possible through the relaxation of economic sanctions.

Federica Mogherini, the de facto EU Foreign Secretary in 2017, being mobbed by MPs in the Iranian Parliament for selfies. Ms Mogherini was only too happy to oblige.
President Trump pulled out of this deal, known as JCPoA, in his first term but the EU persisted, against all the evidence. Clearly we do not know what was discussed during all her visits to Tehran, but the optics do not look good for her.

Brexit Facts4EU.Org Summary
Previously we have revealed Ms Mogherini's ‘special interest’ in Communist countries and Iran

The EU's unelected de facto Foreign Secretary, Federica Mogherini, was a committed communist for eight years until the Italian Communist Party disbanded and was renamed, whereupon Ms Mogherini joined the new organisation.
Ms Mogherini is no fan of the United Kingdom and indicated as early as 2017 that she was looking forward to ‘getting her hands on the file’ as soon as the UK left.
She studied political science in Italy and France and did her university dissertation on Islam.
Observations
What next for Mogherini and the EU?
Mogherini swiftly resigned from her position running the College of Europe and interestingly this is permanent – she did not announce she was stepping down while the investigation is being conducted. Her previous No.2 at EEAS, Stefano Sannino, announced he would be retiring. Meanwhile the current EU Commission moved quickly to reassure its staff.
They have had a lot to absorb, with the ‘Pfizergate’ scandal involving Ursula von der Leyen still running, and further investigations involving the new head of the EEAS, Kaja Kallas, who is embroiled in her own difficulties. Strangely, Ms Kallas’s message to staff was not exactly all-encompassing. She said the events were:
“deeply shocking, but should in no way tarnish the good work that the vast majority of you are doing every day".
Clearly there are some staff whom Ms Kallas feels are not doing good work. It therefore remains to be seen whether there are other skeletons in the closet.
The UK rejoining this?
Our final point is the obvious one. Why would anyone want to rejoin this?
