LATEST : More than 2.1 million additional people employed since the EU Referendum
What on earth happened to all the job losses we were threatened with, if we voted to leave?

Facts4EU.Org’s report shows just how well Brexit Britain has been doing
And proves once again how wrong Cameron, Osborne and the Remainers were
Yesterday (Mon 04 Nov 2024) the Office for National Statistics released its latest data on the number of employees in Great Britain. (Northern Ireland’s data is delayed.) Facts4EU.Org’s analysis of the official figures shows an astonishing rise of more than 2.1 million in the number of employees in GB, since the British people voted to leave the European Union.
This compares with the 500,000 – 820,000 job losses which were threatened by George Osborne and HM Treasury back in 2016, just before the UK’s in/out referendum on continued EU membership.
Brexit Facts4EU.Org Summary
Employees in GB – 2023 compared to 2016
- 2016 total employees : 29,214,400
- 2023 total employees : 31,358,100
- Increase since the EU Referendum : 2,143,700 (7.3%)

‘Stronger Out’
The simple fact is that the UK’s labour market is stronger now than it was at the time of the EU Referendum, by all the key measures.
It is important to remind all readers of what was threatened by the Remainer government of David Cameron and George Osborne in the weeks preceding the EU Referendum. Below is how the (unbiased) state broadcaster, the BBC, reported this at the time.

Statistical note : These accredited official statistics were independently reviewed by the Office for Statistics Regulation. The Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES) is a sample survey from the ONS. For the 2023 survey period, approximately 85,000 businesses were sampled for Great Britain and the response rate was 83.3%. All estimates for 2023 are provisional. Data from the 2016 survey have already been subject to small revisions and are as accurate as possible. BRES is the primary source for employee estimates at a detailed regional and industrial level.
Observations
If the jobs market had done what it was supposed to do immediately after the Referendum, we would have been getting regular reports from the BBC, Sky News, the Guardian, the FT, and others, informing us of all the doom 'n' gloom. As it is there is relative silence, which the Facts4EU.Org team are more than happy to break.
In our next report we will ask “What are all these extra people in employment doing?”

For over eight years we have worked seven days-a-week. As far as we are aware we are the only organisation of our type to have done this. We are grateful to those of our readers who have made donations but sadly the level of our funding is now such that we must make it stretch for as long as we can. This means team members taking other paid work and reducing our output to five days-a-week.
