Despite Ed Davey’s LibDems now languishing in fourth place in the latest polls - behind Nigel Farage’s accelerating Reform UK party - they are likely to win a significant number of seats in the general election.

Their well-established local electoral infrastructure has traditionally focused the party’s efforts on winnable seats in certain parts of the country. Given their past success with this strategy, it is therefore important for the public to know the party’s policies. Facts4EU.Org dissects the LibDem 2024 Manifesto in regard to the European Union.

Below we have picked out just some of the many, many mentions of the EU in the LibDems' manifesto. Possibly the key one is this :-

”We would aim to place the UK-EU relationship on a more formal and stable footing by seeking to join the Single Market.”

It is important to be clear about this LibDem policy. Rejoining the Single Market would subject the entire UK to EU law, which the UK Parliament would have to accept, with no say for the British people whatsoever. Inevitably it would also mean adhering to EU trade rules, which means the EU's Customs Union. As the LibDems say below, this would require the UK to withdraw from all the excellent trade deals which the Dept for Business and Trade has been doing around the world.

Below are just a selection of some of the other LibDem quotes from its manifesto when talking about the EU.

Observations

Like so many ordinary people, we often wish our politicians could be more honest. The LibDems have always been extremist Remainer-Rejoiners. After 2016 they were at the heart of the repeated attempts in Parliament to overturn the largest democratic vote in British history - to leave the EU. The reason we have such a poor arrangement with the EU is because of people like them. They backed the Benn (surrender) Act which tied the Governnment's hands behind its back and prevented a clean Brexit.

They also campaigned vehemently for 'the People's Vote', (as did Labour's Keir Starmer), to overturn the Referendum result when we had already had one.

Six years later they still haven't accepted the decision of the British people. Regardless of any of their other extreme policies, for example on 'Net Zero' and 'the climate emergency', we must call them out on their stated intention to rejoin the EU's Single Market. This is nothing more than a route to rejoining the sclerotic and failing bloc that is the EU.

In a short summary such as this we will refrain from pointing out all the materially false statements in the LibDems' manifesto. We would simply direct them to all the official facts we have published in our thousands of reports.

At least the LibDems are talking about the EU and Brexit. Their plans may be naive and they can say what they want in the safe knowledge they won’t be forming the next Govt, it is very telling that the Cons are not shouting about delivering on their 2019 pledge to “get Brexit done”.

The Lib dem's is a home for angry rejoiners. They make their manifesto 117 pages so the vast majority won't go through it and see their real plans.
Judging by the feelings at large the Lib dem's stand for the opposite of what most think and feel.

They talk of getting a "better deal with Australia" and will leaving it if not! There is never the same sentiment with regards to the EU, That's because to them EU membership is best at any cost. They are extremists in their view while claiming anyone else is extreme.

The uk's animal welfare is far superior to that of the Eu's. We have even recently banned the excessive transport of live animals for slaughter, The lib dem's ignore the facts, Just as they do with many other things.
As with other uk parties the Lib dem's support an alien view to the majority.
They are a dangerous poison.

The Conservatives aren't shouting because they think they have "Got Brexit done"
Lib/lab/con/snp/green have insured that Brexit wasn't really done. We are currently stuck with many links and ties to the EU.
The pantomime of open disregard for the referendum has insured a very poor outcome for our extraction from the EU.
The main parties have played foot loose and fancy free for too long. They are rightly going to get a pasting at the GE, Labour is a very poor substitute for a strong functioning government. It can safely be believed that millions of people will vote for Reform uk, Far more than are currently declaring it. The strangest thing I've seen recently in the pols, With our undemocratic system puts Reform higher than lib dem's but with no seats at all! Where the lib dem's get tens of seats for a lower percentage! The pols intentionally lie, They are undemocratic and try to frame the vote.
Just look at the last two "leaders" debates. Only lab/cons present? Are they the only two parties running for election? The blob are trying to show that you can only really vote for them.
Our feelings to all of this are deep frustration and anger. The country has never been so angry and disillusioned at it all. This really is real.

I'll bet that the Lib Dem's proclivity for raising the subject of the EU won't stretch to include it''s undemocratic authoratarianism .

They won't tell the electorate that the ECJ (The EU's highest court) has officially found Hungary guilty for NOT accepting migrants at it's border.

It's slamming Hungary with a fine of €1 million EVERY SINGLE DAY. That is €365 MILLION every year.

On top of that, Hungary should pay a base fine of €200 million.

You won't find that on any campaign leaflets.
