Facts4EU.Org hails the UK’s progress but urges Rishi Sunak to go faster

All over the EU things have been grinding to a halt – literally. Motorways have been blocked by thousands of farmers, from the Poland-Ukraine border in the East to Paris in the West. The train strikes and doctors’ strikes in the EU have only added to the misery.

The UK still faces many challenges but things are worse in the EU.

Today we are four years on since the UK officially left the European Union on 31 January 2020, and Facts4EU.Org takes stock.

Not everything in the UK’s garden is rosy, but it could be worse

There is a lot further to go, to take advantage of the UK’s independence from the EU. We have only started to scratch the surface. Nevertheless the picture so far is a very long way from the Armageddon which was threatened by David Cameron, George Osborne, and all the world’s financial and other institutions immediately prior to the largest democratic vote in British history – to leave the European Union.

TOMORROW - Don't miss our "Happy Birthday, Brexit Britain" article, as we celebrate the fourth anniversary of the UK's freedom. We have the thoughts shared exclusively with us by Nigel Farage, Lord David Frost and several other key figures.

Observations

In the face of the Establishment’s onslaught in late 2015 to mid-2016, the British people stood up and were counted. We couldn’t be more proud.

We were then all faced with a House of Commons of elected representatives (including Sir Keir Starmer and his front bench) – and a House of Lords with unelected members – who refused to accept the result of the Referendum.

Undeterred, the British people voted again in 2019 after the ousting of Theresa May, and returned representatives a little more aligned with the majority view. Today we continue to have MPs who are out of touch with their electorates. The ‘One Nation’ group of Tory MPs come to mind, as well as many Labour MPs and the entirety of the SNP and Liberal Democrats.

We still have a long way to go. The general election this year might provoke a subsequent seismic shift in the political landscape. Our prediction is that this will not happen until after the election, by which time we seem highly likely to have a Keir Starmer government.

Facts4EU.Org and CIBUK.Org continue to be non-partisan but we must continue to fight for the independence the British people voted for.

Coming tomorrow : “Happy Birthday, Brexit Britain!”
