Without Brexit you would have been sucked into this, with your MP having no say

Facts4EU.Org summarises the latest EU plans to know all the private details of its citizens
Yesterday (Wed 06 Sept 2023) the EU Commission of Frau Ursula von der Leyen announced its latest plans to continue the centralisation and digitalisation of personal data on the citizens of all the 27 member countries. Had it not been for Brexit, British citizens would have been sucked into this scheme starting from the end of this year.
The new plans will accelerate the moves towards an EU ‘Digital Identity Wallet’ in 2024, held on people’s smart-phones or on an EU card, as well as on central EU databases. This will contain a wide variety of information about them. The information will include their personal details including their full name, address, date of birth, marital status, healthcare information, social security status, employment details, and pension details.
In addition to government and labour officials, it seems that big corporates in the financial and medical world will also have access to this information.
Here is how the unelected EU Commission has justified all of this
The EU Commission has justified these moves by claiming they are necessary for ‘freedom of movement’.
Here is what Herr Schmit, ‘EU Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights’, had to say yesterday :-
“This year is the 30th anniversary of the Single Market. This is also about free movement of people. There is no free movement of people without guaranteeing their social rights, and that's why coordination of social security across borders is so important.”
- Herr Thomas Schmit, EU Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, 06 Sept 2023

Just how many EU citizens justify these moves to centralise data on them all?
Given that Herr Schmit justified the need for this centralised EU database on its citizens by reference to the EU’s ‘freedom of movement’ principle, we have used his figures to show just how few EU citizens take advantage of it.
Brexit Facts4EU.Org has looked at the numbers of EU citizens who might derive some benefit from these moves to a ‘Big Sister’ society. In what follows, we have used Commissioner Schmit’s own figures which he included in his statement yesterday.

What exactly is being planned this year and next year?
The EU Commission is calling on Member States to accelerate the following key measures :-
- Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information (EESSI)
- Single Digital Gateway Regulation, by 12 December 2023 at the latest
- The European Social Security Pass (ESSPASS)
- The EU Digital Identity (EUDI) wallets
We're now so close to the full funding for completing 'The Independence Documentary'

We just need to raise the last £6,000 for the 'post-production editing'. Can you help us to get over the line?'
Together with our partners at CIBUK.Org, we've organised a TV-style film with a stellar line-up of well-known politicians and all kinds of interesting people, men and women, white and ethnic origin, presented by Alexandra Phillips.
Jacob, Nigel, David Jones, John Redwood, Kate Hoey, Lord Cruddas, Ann Widdecombe, Richard Tice, Ben Habib, and many more. The big launch to the public and the media is set for 02 October.

Our presenter Alex will be known to many readers as an ex-GB News presenter and a frequent sight on everything from Question Time to Talk TV. We've finished filming - now we have the difficult task of editing by our professional production team, if we can get some extra funding. This is going to be big!

Who is Herr Schmit?
Nicolas Schmit is a politician from the EU ‘country’ of Luxembourg, home to Jean-Claude Juncker. He is a member of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party.
Over the centuries Luxembourg has based its existence on being less a country, more a tax haven. Its population on 01 January this year was just 660,809. This makes it smaller than most UK cities and smaller than many UK towns.
He was appointed to Ursula von der Leyen’s Commission in December 2019 and his remit is jobs… and ‘social rights’. A cursory glance at his job application in 2019 shows that he is far more focused on the latter than the former.
As we have reported many times over the past eight years, the EU’s unemployment rate has averaged around double that of the United Kingdom.
Observations
Readers will have differing views on the need for a national ID card, but this report is not about that.
The EU Commission is moving fast towards a centralised database containing a wide variety of personal information on every one of its 448 million citizens, regardless of the fact that around 95% of them do not take advantage of the EU’s precious tenet of ‘freedom of movement’.
Despite this, the little-used ‘freedom of movement’ is the justification for this rapid move towards an EU superstate with a central database on all its citizens.
The thin end of the wedge
There is no doubt that the efficient use of computer systems can speed up processes and make people’s lives easier. Nonetheless, there must be a balance between efficiencies and the risk that the state can gain access to far more control over people’s lives than is desirable in free societies.
In the case of the EU Commission, this new EU ‘Digital Identity Wallet’ means them having access to the detailed personal information on all the EU27’s citizens. The Commission is a body of technocrats. The Commissioners are not elected by popular mandate and therefore they are not subject to being voted out by the electorate every five years.
Another Brexit Benefit
Thanks to Brexit, this is yet another example of EU state control avoided. We believe that most British people would favour reciprocal healthcare arrangements with EU countries (even though the costs to the taxpayer are far higher in respect of EU citizens visiting the UK than for UK citizens visiting the EU).
However this step towards every citizen’s personal details being held centrally by the EU would surely be a step too far for the majority of the British people.
We must get reports like this out there
Reports like the one above take far longer to research, write and produce than many people realise. If they were easy, readers would see other organisations also producing these daily. However, there’s little point in the Facts4EU.Org team working long hours, seven days-a-week, if we lack the resources to promote them effectively – to the public, to MPs, and to the media. This is where you come in, dear reader.
