EU celebrates opening of new railway in Czech Republic paid for with British money

Today (23 June 2023) marks the seventh anniversary of the largest democratic vote in British history, when the British people voted to leave the European Union. An announcement by the EU Commission yesterday shows exactly why this was the right decision.

For years we have been highlighting the tens of billions of pounds spent by the British taxpayer to build spanking new infrastructure in EU countries. The UK paid into an EU fund from which it did not get one single penny back. Nothing. Rien. Nichts.

On today’s anniversary of that momentous day seven years ago when we voted to leave the EU, we provide one example of a Brexit benefit. Yes, it relates to something we paid for, but as readers read what follows we invite them to reflect on the fact that are no longer be paying for the EU’s largesse.

Want a new state-of-the-art railway? You’ll have to go to the Czech Republic to use it

Yesterday, the renovated railway service in South Moravia, one of the biggest EU Cohesion Fund's investments in Czechia, was inaugurated and opened to passengers. The renovation of this line, involving 37 new electric units “will contribute to the de-congestion of traffic during peak hours in the busy South-Moravian railway, which transports approximately 22 million passengers every year.”

To those of our readers viewing this report while standing in an overcrowded and old railway carriage on their way to work, they may be interested to know that :-

“The reinforced railway system offers new modern rolling stock covering services on the two busiest regional rail lines around the regional capital Brno. The new electric and energy efficient trains, counting for more than 10,000 seats, replace the obsolete and old vehicles, offering passengers safer, faster and more comfortable journeys.”
“A modern European ETCS train security system is installed, and the train will reach speeds of up to 160 km/h.” (100mph)

Were you asked if you wanted to spend billions making the EU’s services better than ours?

We must stress that this is just one example of the use of billions of pounds which the UK paid into the EU’s ‘Cohesion Fund’. The UK was not entitled to a single penny from this fund. We paid in, and funded massive infrastructure projects across the EU.

Another example we reported on was the new subway network in Poland.

The Czech Republic’s receipt of money from the EU’s ‘Cohesion Policy’

2014 - 2020 : €22.7 billion (£19.4bn GBP)
2021 – 2027 : €21.1 billion (£18.0bn GBP)

It is important to note two things :-

The above sums do not include other payments to the Czech Republic
This is only one small country – the amounts paid out overall are massive

For the 2021-2027 period, the Cohesion Fund covers Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Observations

"Funded by the EU"

If any readers wonder why the Czechs have never thanked the British people for their generosity, it is because all these projects have plaques saying "Funded by the EU". The vast majority of Czechs are blissfully ignorant of the contribution of the British people to their shiny new facilities.

The benefits of Brexit

As a result of Brexit the UK will no longer be funding huge infrastructure projects across the EU. Instead we can – and should – spend this money in the United Kingdom. It could pay for thousands of doctors, nurses, and care workers. It could fund schools, local services, and radically improve our roads and transport infrastructure. And we might even be able to cut taxes.

While being a member of the EU, the UK paid billions into improving the lives of people in other EU countries at the expense of its own people. Newer readers may wonder why they were never told about the existence of this multi-billion EU fund from which no British person has ever benefited. The answer is simple. This is “the Remainer Blob” in action. The truth was concealed from the British people for decades.

On this seventh anniversary of voting to leave the EU we thought it worth reminding people of why the great British public’s decision was so wise on 23 June 2016.

We must get reports like this out there

I use the new Elizabeth Line, it is great and the new stations are impressive … I don’t have to go to the Czech Republic to use a new railway line.

Beneath the facade of democracy, EU scandals and now open censorship and repression by using 'spyware' on journalists who might investigate 'national security issues' (rather a vague term/) is highlighting the fragility of the EU and it's employees, more worthy of a communist state?

I wonder if any of that ‘Cohesion Fund’ money was used for the construction of Crossrail, The Elizabeth Line or HS2 for that matter?
Somehow I doubt it.

And all that money we paid in is just lost. It served no other purpose but to set us back.
Isn't it a wonder how our roads and infrastructure have just deteriorated over the years.
Have you ever seen the roads in a worse state.
Instead of hs2 they should be putting in two extra lanes all the way around the m25.
It's an absolute embarrassment to behold.
Another sad fact is the remainer blob ensured we still pay a tidy £39 billion to the EU for no reason at all.
Another example of the weak establishment bending over for them on behalf of all of us.
They worked out long ago the only way to conquer us is to infiltrate us from within.
They have done a very good job.

Infact its such a silly project it must have been done for other reasons we will never know.

Some EU members have blocked this proposal as they believe this is a an issue that should be dealt with at national level … and they don’t want interference from the EU on this matter. Currently it is up to the individual member states to ban spyware for journalists, right? … Do you know if the UK has banned spyware for journalists? Or does the UK government allow the option to use it (eg for terrorism investigations)?

It's ironic that all this money has been, (and still is) spent on transport infrastructure within the EU, and yet the EU itself is stuck on the road to nowhere.

BT : EU Member State ambassadors passed the European Council's position on the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) that was initially designed to safeguard media freedom, pluralism and independence in the EU." Looks like an about face?

8 Have you wondered. Indeed, the initial proposal from the EU Commission to ban the installation of spyware has been vetoed by certain EU members. Individual states can obviously still ban the spyware.
