Facts4EU.Org analyses and summarises the official data released on Tuesday

Ahead of the debate on the Illegal Migration Bill yesterday, the Home Office produced an ‘ad hoc’ (i.e. unscheduled) summary of immigration statistics. Whilst the headlines sounded good, there’s a little more to it than that.

Brexit Facts4EU.Org goes behind the headlines to bring readers the important facts and figures from the official data which accompanied the statement.

On Tuesday the Home Office proudly announced the following.

Unfortunately the reality is a little different

Only 389 Albanians were deported in the first quarter of this year. In the whole of last year (2022) only 954 were deported. It must be remembered that Albania is a safe country.

Brexit Facts4EU.Org Summary

Only 7.8% of Albanian illegal migrants were deported last year

The Home Office tried to put a positive spin on things, but here are the real facts from its own figures:-

  • 12,301 Albanians arrived on small boats in 2022
  • Only 954 Albanians were forcibly returned
  • That is only 7.8% of the total who arrived from Albania, via Macron's northern French beaches

The Home Office has added in the number of Albanian migrants who have returned to Albania of their own accord. This is almost as many as the number of forcible deportations. In other words it doubles the number of Albanians leaving the UK and therefore flatters the Government’s statistics.

The reality is that less than 8% have actually been deported.

The backlog of asylum claims has soared

When it comes to the processing of asylum claims from all nationalities, the backlog is now at a scandalous level. At the end of March 2023, the Home Office admits that 138,052 migrants had not even received a first decision on their ‘asylum’ applications.

Here is the reality of how the Home Office’s backlog of outstanding asylum claims has rocketed. These are the official figures.

Suella Braverman admits crime and prostitution are being fuelled by illegal immigration

Yesterday the Illegal Migrants Bill sailed through the Commons on its third reading. The Home Secretary’s comments yesterday made headlines. Here are some excerpts from her comments :-

"I think that the people coming here illegally do possess values which are at odds with our country. We are seeing heightened levels of criminality when related to the people who've come on boats, related to drug dealing, exploitation, prostitution.”

“It is becoming a notable feature of everyday crime-fighting in England and Wales. Many people are coming here illegally and they’re getting very quickly involved in the drugs trade, in other forms of exploitation.”

- The Rt Hon Suella Braverman MP, Home Secretary, Wed 26 Apr 2023

Observations

Our report above shows just how slowly everything moves in the Home Office. A deal is struck with the Albanian government back in December, and yet our research shows that the Home Office has deported less than 8% of the number of Albanians illegally in the UK.

Even worse, the backlog of asylum claims being processed from all nationalities has soared to 23 times its level 12 years ago.

Once again it must be asked if the number of civil servants ‘shirking from home’ is partly to blame. We cannot see why any civil servant who does not turn up in the office for work without a valid excuse should not be fired.

Today we have again focused on illegal immigration. We shall return again to the subject of legal immigration in a future report. Both of these subjects affect the quality of life for British citizens throughout the United Kingdom.

The British have a worldwide reputation for being patient – witness our quiet demonstration to the world of how to queue - but when it comes to immigration we suspect that this will come to an end very soon. Any political party wishing to win the next general election would be wise to wake up to this.

We must get reports like this out there

Reports like the one above take far longer to research, write and produce than many people realise. If they were easy, readers would see other organisations also producing these daily. However, there’s little point in the Facts4EU.Org team working long hours, seven days-a-week, if we lack the resources to promote them effectively – to the public, to MPs, and to the media. This is where you come in, dear reader.
