No.4 in our series of illuminating interviews
with key figures from the UK and around the World

On the eve of the Conservative Party Conference, Facts4EU.Org and CIBUK.Org are proud to present an exclusive video interview with the eminent British MP and former Secretary of State, the Rt Hon David Jones MP. (See below to watch the video.)

Unlike many TV interviews, David Jones had the opportunity to give detailed and nuanced responses to questions where he was not interrupted nor talked over. We believe the result is a much more informative experience for readers and for our YouTube audience.

Brexit Facts4EU.Org Summary

In this interview David Jones gives us his candid views on a comprehensive range of issues. He tackles:

  • The radical new policies of Prime Minister Liz Truss and her Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng
  • Reversing the tax increases planned by former Chancellor Rishi Sunak
  • The reactions of his colleagues to the new policies
  • The absolute priority of “far more communication of the extent of these reforms”
  • The benefits of the new policies and why they are being done
  • The imperative of extricating Northern Ireland from the EU via the NI Protocol Bill
  • The “shock on the part of the EU that any member state should decide that it wanted to leave”
  • Caution over joining the “European Political Community” proposed by Emmanuel Macron
  • The need to change this to a “Forum”, per Liz Truss’ proposal
  • The levels of immigration and whether the UK should allow more working visas
  • Freedoms to develop UK’s own rules, now we are no longer shackled to EU regulations
  • The ‘bonfire of EU laws’ being pursued by Jacob Rees Mogg
  • Importance of strong Ministers ensuring civil servants carry out the government’s instructions
  • The likely date of the next general election and the chances of a Conservative victory
  • Risks to Brexit of a Labour/LibDem/SNP government
  • Brexit as a continuous process for some years

Finally, David Jones offers his advice to anyone who wants to see Brexit completed

“MPs, particularly Conservative MPs, at the moment need a bit of loving.”

“[Readers and viewers] should certainly support organisations like CIBUK and Facts4EU… because organisations such as CIB and Facts4EU are the grit in the oyster. They make sure that the government keeps on its mettle. They do it professionally and they do it enthusiastically.”

Observations

This is a man who has been at the heart of discussions with the EU and within Government. In his current roles in Parliament he continues to fight for Brexit and for all the benefits this can deliver.

We are most grateful to David Jones for giving up his time for this interview. His comments on the EU and on the current political scene were so comprehensive we didn’t feel able to cut them at all.

We hope readers enjoyed the interview and found it as interesting as we did.
