Brussels bullies seek to bring Brexit Britain down to their level

Words like “reciprocity”, “proportionality” and “solidarity” can’t hide the EU’s hostility

Faced with its own incompetence, under fire from all sides, the EU Commission lashes out

On Wednesday last week (24 Mar 2021) the EU Commission announced another of its “Implementing Regulations”, which was clearly targeted at Brexit Britain.

The new Regulation, like its predecessors, has had no parliamentary scrutiny. These Regulations are diktats from the unelected Commissioners residing in the Berlaymont building in Brussels. In effect these are laws made by unaccountable technocrats.

“Export authorisations are to be refused by the Member States,” says the EU Commission, “to countries which have a large production capacity of their own, while those countries restrict their own exports to the Union, either by law or through contractual or other arrangements concluded with vaccine manufacturers established in their territory.”

Under fire for incompetence, the EU Commission lashes out

Those who purport to run ‘Europe’ from Brussels have come under increasing fire from member countries, furious at the disastrous progress on vaccinations since the Commission seized control of the whole process last summer.

This was the first time that the Brussels machine had extended its grip into the health sector to such a degree, and it used the COVID crisis to make the power grab.

With the EU machine ill-equipped, inexperienced, and institutionally slow, Facts4EU.Org saw this move by the Eurocrats as an accident waiting to happen and so it has proved.

Now Brussels is desperate to deflect blame

Last week the EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen commented on the new Regulation, saying:

“This is why the European Commission will introduce the principles of reciprocity and proportionality into the EU's existing authorisation mechanism.”

The EU Commission defined one of its new terms as follows:

“Proportionality – are the conditions prevailing in the destination country better or worse than the EU's, in particular its epidemiological situation, its vaccination rate and its access to vaccines.”

In other words, as the United Kingdom Government has done far better than the EU Commission in rolling out its vaccination programme, the UK’s performance must be brought down to the appalling low level in the EU which exists under Frau von der Leyen’s management.

That Dutch factory

Readers may have seen stories about a Dutch factory which the EU suspected of supplying AstraZeneca vaccines to the United Kingdom. It was even visited by the EU’s Single Market Commissioner.

It may therefore be interesting to know that this Dutch factory was only approved on Friday (26 March 2021) to produce vaccines for the EU by the ‘European [EU - Ed.] Medicines Agency’. Before that, no vaccines produced there were authorised for EU use.

If this isn’t fake news, what is?

In her statement on Wednesday, Frau von der Leyen made an extraordinary claim.

“The EU has an excellent portfolio of different vaccines and we have secured more than enough doses for the entire population.”

If this were remotely true, why the need to raid factories using paramilitary police (finding nothing amiss) and then seek to impose vaccine export bans to the United Kingdom?

Observations

The EU Commission claims that “the EU” has exported vaccines to 33 destinations. No it didn’t. Pharmaceutical companies did, many of them using the core ingredients imported from factories based in the United Kingdom.

It might reasonably be asked whether the level of hypocrisy and misinformation coming out of Brussels is now resembling pandemic proportions.

We'll never sink to their level coz we've never been that mean spirited, jealous or loathsome! The world is watching and can see for themselves how low the EU can/will stoop. Individual member countries must feel a bit uncomfortable with EUs attitude towards us?

Several news reports in the public domain suggest factions within some EU member countries are getting together for EU Exit, which I wholeheartedly support.
Perhaps ordinary people on the continent have at last woken up and realised they're losing control of their own country to an unaccountable foreign bureaucracy, headed by incompetent Ms Von der Leyen.
When the commission fails to get what it wants, it threatens its members, and recently started to threaten countries outside its membership (supposedly a trading block)!
In my eyes, the commission continues - step by little step - to grab powers, control, and money, from those member countries.
The above article is a perfect example of commission intrusion into domestic matters of countries, and more importantly, interfering with normal operations of private companies.
The Dutch company would have every right to sue the commission for its actions.
Many decades ago, continental countries wanted assistance to be liberated from an extreme dictator - many British lives were lost.
So I pose a question worthy of thought - WHY do ordinary people on the continent allow the unelected, dictatorial monster called the EU to continue, when they're quite capable of running their own countries with those they elect and can remove, (as opposed to those they never elected, and can NEVER remove)?
There are no doubts the EU commission continues to act in bad faith towards the UK, and in my opinion, this requires a firm response from Prime Minister Johnson - for example, returning British military and hardware back home.

The UK did not have the colloquial name of "Perfidious Albion" for no reason.
It's not new either - it's from the 13th century.

(3) Historical indeed, as you say, 'Perfidious Albion' a very long standing term / accusation. Most are enthusiastic for historical detail, knowledge, recognition and acceptance of the context pertaining to it and linkages to other nations. You can't change history. Though so many continue to try, mainly by self deception. I suspect this term, which could be considered derogatory to our nation state, is safe however, from the cancel culture specialists and will remain untouched so in this case historical detail will prevail. And that's perfectly OK too, for most. We have a right to be offended. The recent events of the last few weeks, of the inexcusable actions and propaganda by the EU powers that be, is indeed already history and remains on the record for all to see. Offensive, hypocritical and bullying in the extreme, not least to the AZ company overall. It is the EU's right however to offend and let's face it, it is only doing and continuing to do, as in many other aspects also, what it does best. The EU's Internal Market Commissioner calls for all AZ vaccine produced on European soil ( or European Union soil ? ) to be / will be, issued to Europeans. Is that to Europeans in general or just European Union states' Europeans. Just asking.

This is not an isolated action by the EU, this is an escalation initiated by the UK. How can people take offence to the result of their own actions?
People choose to think we are still in a union with Europe. We are not. Or that they owe us favours because the PM calls them "our friends in Europe".
By choosing to be a free & sovereign nation, Brexiteers also chose to be a competitor of the EU, if only by proximity.
Whether they realised this at the time or not is anyone's guess.
All we're seeing here is competition, a contention for limited resources. Expect more of this over time as we try to regain what we already had.
To our own history we can also add that we recently decided to unilaterally break an internation agreement, to which the EU is doing what happens to people who not only break agreements but also have a documented history for it. It does not look good that we publicly threatened to break rules beforehand either.
If the EU seem to mistrust the UK, there are very valid reasons why. "Fool me once... can't get fooled again", comes to mind; said by the guy who fooled us into doing something against our better judgement...but we did it anyway. Without a moment's pause. At least that time, it was not yet criminalised, so a million citizens exercised their civil freedom & staged the largest protest in our history, which, even though it was totally ignored, is also untouchable by the "cancel culture specialists" you mention.
Maybe people should look at what's happening at home, with worker's rights that we previously enjoyed disappearing, rather than the deliberate misdirection that the EU is.

Please allow a comment or two from a non-British Brexiteer still stuck in the EU. Eleanor (1): individual member countries and more importantly individual citizens in the EU are taking note of this shambles and nobody has any beef with the UK; resentment is restricted to the corrupt bureaucratic unelected establishment calling themselves the "EU" or even worse "Europe". Let's celebrate our common interest as free citizens in different nations and work collectively to abolish the EU. Britain remains an inspiration to the rest of us. Pointer (5): Get a grip about the "largest protest in history", the real one was twice the size (check Wikipedia for war protests UK 2003) but was nevertheless ignored by your Remainer heroes in government. Workers' rights in the EU? Feel free to relocate to Romania. Or Bulgaria, or Greece, or wherever you'll claim your stake in the EU workers' paradise. Please enjoy your celebrated freedom of movement and migration.

... "the largest protest in our history" - "our" means the UK. I don't know what the protest numbers were in your country or where the "real" or fake ones were. I'm talking about the "million" march in London which had close to or more than a million, as it's name suggests. All records about this will be the same, including the very Wiki you suggested.
You would do well to read it first before telling people to get a grip about something you barely grasp.
The government of the time were not Remainers - far from it. They were pragmatic enough to be openly skeptical yet quietly at comfort being in it. Just like the Tory officials now. You'd know this if you were a Brit or read before writing.
Is there anything else you're uninformed about that you'd like to display?
I don't know what the last part of your rant is about - but I doubt you do too. So I won't ask.
I'd say move to the UK but your Brexit buddies voted not to have you here.
