Your help is needed TODAY to urge MPs to vote for the Internal Market Bill

Brexit Facts4EU.Org announces the launch of a major and immediate campaign to persuade MPs to support the Government’s Internal Market Bill which will be debated tomorrow (Mon 14 Sept 2020) in the House of Commons.

Brexit is once again under threat from former Prime Ministers and Remain-voting MPs in their last-ditch effort to thwart the democratic decision of the British people to leave the European Union in full. This campaign gives a voice to the majority who voted to leave more than four years ago.

An important message to MPs from 14 organisations representing millions of voters

We would ask that you support the Government
in the passage of the Internal Market and Finance Bills

More than four years after a clear majority of the British electorate voted to leave the European Union, we are at a critical juncture once again on the final stage towards a fully free, independent, and sovereign United Kingdom.

The Government is now endeavouring to protect the integrity of our Union from the EU’s apparent extreme interpretation of the Withdrawal Treaty.

To quote the Prime Minister’s article in the Daily Telegraph of Sat 12 Sept 2020:

“We are now hearing that, unless we agree to the EU's terms, the EU will use an extreme interpretation of the Northern Ireland protocol to impose a full-scale trade border down the Irish Sea.

“We are being told that the EU will not only impose tariffs on goods moving from Great Britain to Northern Ireland, but that they might actually stop the transport of food products from GB to NI.

“I have to say that we never seriously believed that the EU would be willing to use a treaty, negotiated in good faith, to blockade one part of the UK, to cut it off, or that they would actually threaten to destroy the economic and territorial integrity of the UK. This was for the very good reason that any such barrier, any such tariffs or division, would be completely contrary to the letter and the spirit of the Good Friday Agreement.”

It is our collective assessment – backed by highly-respected and EU-experienced lawyers - that the European Union is in serious and material breaches of its ‘good faith’, ‘best endeavours' and other obligations under the Withdrawal Agreement, in which it committed to respect the UK’s sovereignty and internal market. We therefore believe that the Government is entitled to act to protect the UK to the fullest extent from EU demands purportedly based on this document, and that such action is justified under international law on account of these breaches.

We ask you to vote in support of the Internal Market and Finance Bills so that a strong and consistent message from the British people and its Parliament is sent to Brussels. The Union must be preserved and the Government and Parliament must have the absolute right to determine the policies and laws adopted on behalf of the British people, with no interference from any EU body.

We look forward to your confirmation that you will support and vote with the Government on these matters and in particular on the Internal Market and Finance Bills. The entire country needs certainty in the coming months and we hope you will play your part in providing this.

This is urgent

With the Internal Market Bill being debated tomorrow in Westminster, it is essential for as many people as possible to email their MPs today. Below we provide practical advice on how to do this.

Here is how to get this to your MP today

Finding your MP’s email address is easy. Use this link: House of Commons directory of MPs and just type in your postcode to find your MP, or use the alphabetical list.

Please then send the official campaign letter which you can download here, and attach it to your email. Write whatever you want in your covering email message, but please observe the following golden rules:

  • Keep your messages very short – they have a much better chance of being read
  • Better to make one point well, than ten points which get lost in a long message
  • Remember you're not trying to convert the MP to Brexit and you're not trying to win an argument
  • Always be polite
  • Never address an email or letter to more than one MP – it will get caught in Parliament’s spam filter
  • Make it personal and use their name
  • If you're writing to your constituency MP, you must provide your home address

An example of what you might write (but please vary this):

“Dear [MP’s name],

I write to ask that you support the Government’s Internal Market and Finance Bills.

The European Union is in serious and material breaches of its ‘good faith’, ‘best endeavours' and other obligations under the Withdrawal Agreement. In my view as a voter in your constituency – and in the view of highly-regarded and EU-experienced lawyers - the Government’s proposed course of action is justified under international law on account of these breaches.

Please review the attached letter from 14 respected Brexit organisations which expresses my opinion on this matter.

I strongly urge you to support the Government in passing the Internal Market Bill and subsequent Finance Bill and look forward to hearing that you have done this.

Yours sincerely,
[Name, Address]"

Getting the message out more widely

© Brexit Facts4EU.Org 2020

Brexit Facts4EU.Org and the other Brexit organisations we have brought together ask that you use any means possible to promote this campaign today – via social media, or via emails to family, friends, and your local Brexit groups, or via posts beneath media articles.

Readers may also wish to view other ways of getting their views across to their local MP. In 2018 we published the Brexit Battle Pack – the most comprehensive set of advice available on communicating your voice as widely as possible. Whilst dated, readers may wish to read our advice relating to contacting Constituency Offices, for example.

Observations

The Brexit Facts4EU.Org team is pleased to have been able to initiate and coordinate this campaign. It gives you a practical action that you could take today to counter the awful resurgence of fading politicians who have never accepted that they were wrong over Brexit.

In today’s Sunday Times, two of the usual suspects – Tony Blair and Sir John Major – have written a holier-than-thou piece which completely fails to address the key point : that it’s the EU which has broken the international Withdrawal Treaty.

We very much hope that readers will do everything they can today, to communicate to their MP that we must achieve the fully free, independent, and sovereign United Kingdom that the majority of the British people voted for more than four years ago.

Finally, we need your help. Unlike some Remainer organisations we receive no funding from foreign billionaires. It is only public donations that keep us going – just. Please donate something today, so that we can continue to research, publish, and campaign for Brexit. We must keep going and see this thing through. Quick, secure, and confidential donation methods are below this article. Thank you.
