We have obtained the above data from the Office for National Statistics this morning. It shows the latest figures for deaths in England and Wales, and it is highly unlikely to differ for Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT

  1. Follow Government advice
Nothing in any of our facts-based reports on the Coronavirus has suggested that anyone should do anything other than follow the latest official advice from the Government and from its medical advisers.
  2. Of course we care
For an individual to develop any serious illness is of course terrible on a personal level, especially if their immune system is compromised or if they are elderly. The Brexit Facts4EU.Org team have personal experience of these scenarios, as a great many readers do.
  3. The figures from the ONS naturally lag behind reality
Whilst we have shown the latest figures from this morning, these will not reflect the very latest position today. The figures are those reported to the ONS for the week ending 20 Mar 2020 – around 10 days ago.
  4. We are not doctors nor epidemiologists: we publish facts
We have experience in observing how quangos in the EU and around the world have started to act as if they can define the news agenda, rather than simply providing facts on it. We constantly observe these organisations growing and spreading their influence as much as they can. More funding usually follows.

We therefore feel it is appropriate to provide some facts for our readers so they are as informed as possible.

Observations

The data naturally lags behind the reality, but…

The response from the UK Government to the Coronavirus scare – and the response from governments around the world – has caused massive and detrimental effects on individuals, on societies and on the economies of the world.

Global economies are being trashed, worldwide recession is inevitable, unemployment will rocket as companies go bust, families and individuals are finding themselves in major financial hardship and misery, lives and relationships are being put under massive pressure with permanent consequences, and civil liberties are being curtailed across the globe.

…What on earth is going on?

Today we have reported on figures from the UK – and specifically from England and Wales. In our previous six reports on the Coronavirus we have have covered information from the WHO and from the ECDC, regarding figures from around the world.

Unless there is something seriously wrong with the official figures from the United Kingdom today, some big questions must surely now be asked.

The very least we would have feared and expected was to see a significant uplift in the number of deaths per day and per week. It should be possible to see SOME change.

To see no change at all is very odd indeed

The country is on shutdown. Nothing comparable to this has been seen since the Second World War. And yet there is still no sign that this health scare is any different from any of the numerous health scares which have preceded it over the past 30 years. These include SARS, Swine Flu, Foot and Mouth, Mad Cow Disease, Ebola, MERS, and ZIKA.

Things may get very much worse, but right now there is no noticeable change in average deaths per week

We do understand that our NHS staff have to worry about many issues other than the number of people dying each week. Intensive care units, available respirators, protective equipment and many other issues are preoccupying minds across the country.

We also understand that there are time lags in deaths being reported and we have a reasonable idea of many of the other issues surrounding the Coronavirus.

Nevertheless we must ask the basic question: If Coronavirus is so bad that it closes down entire countries....

Then why can’t we see any effect whatsoever in the number of deaths in the UK each week?

We do not sit behind a paywall – you can read our well-researched and factual reports each week for free.
