EU Council President then flies to Albania to talk accession – one in, one out?

Early yesterday morning, the European Union and the United Kingdom signed the Treaty which formally denotes the exit of the UK from EU membership in six days’ time.

Brussels – Charles Michel, EU Council President – appointed 2019, not elected by popular mandate
Brussels – Ursula von der Leyen, EU Commission President – appointed 2019, not elected by popular mandate
London – Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister – elected 2019 by popular mandate

The final stage takes place on Wednesday next week, when the 750 MEPs of the EU Parliament must approve the Treaty. In reality this decision was already taken at a private committee meeting of senior MEPs on Thursday.

Next Wednesday some tearful British Remoaner MEPs will vote against the Treaty, but it will pass anyway.

Albania is one of several countries in the Balkans which are desperate to join the EU as soon as possible. Already they benefit from billions of pounds of free EU funding, but once they are members they will be able to access even more.

Fresh from signing the Withdrawal Treaty which will see the EU’s second-largest economy leave in just six days’ time, EU Council President Charles Michel departed Brussels for Tirana, capital of Albania, where he met the Albania PM. (The Belgian Charles Michel is the replacement for the Polish Donald Tusk.)

Yesterday President Michel tweeted:

“I am in Tirana with [Albanian] PM @ediramaal to discuss EU-Albania relations, the future of the accession process and the upcoming #EUWesternBalkans summit in Zagreb.”

Monsieur Michel then went on to North Macedonia where he met with its President Stevo Pendarovski.

“Gratitude to @eucopresident for the support to start pre-accession negotiations with North Macedonia. Let us all continue working towards the fulfillment of our strategic goal, membership in the EU.”

Albania and North Macedonia are two of the poorest countries in Europe. They each have formal “accession status” with the EU. Below is a comparison which Brexit Facts4EU.Org published in 2018, which shows the relative economic power of the UK compared to these two countries, which the EU Council President visited yesterday, just after signing the Withdrawal Treaty with the UK.

Observations

We confidently predict that British arch-Remoaner MEPs will be allowed to wail on excessively, in Wednesday’s EU Parliament session to approve the EU-UK Withdrawal Treaty. Hundreds of MEPs from across the EU27 countries will applaud each time, misty-eyed, as the likes of Claude Moraes (Lab), Seb Dance (Lab), Richard Corbett (Lab), Catherine Bearder (LibDem), and some other very odd British Remoaner MEPs make absurd and anti-democratic statements.

Readers can fully expect to see latitude from the Chair if any of these Remoaner MEPs run over their allotted minute. Such latitude is unlikely to be given to Nigel Farage or any of his colleagues.

The simple fact is that the British people in their very great wisdom voted in the largest democratic exercise in British history to leave the sclerotic mess that is the European Union.

Most EU27 MEPs are in denial about this, preferring to believe that the largest political propaganda exercise in British history was conducted by the under-funded Leave side, rather than by the over-funded and Government-backed Remain side. These MEPs get their British news from the Europhile Financial Times, Guardian, and the BBC, which explains some of their ignorance.

Some readers may feel that the trip yesterday by the new EU Council President, Belgian Charles Michel, to two accession countries was coincidental on the same day he signed the Treaty which will see the EU’s second-largest power leave within days.

It wasn’t. We have seen this sort of thing countless times from the EU. It is pure deflection, intended to suggest that the devastating departure of the United Kingdom is somehow of little consequence to the European Union.

So, Boris has bodged leaving the EU (the desired result of the referendum) properly & signed us up to a new Treaty & guaranteed the EU a blank cheque for monies that they will determine & many 'traps' set. He has abandoned N. Ireland, with a border down the Irish sea & different treatment to the rest of the UK. We will hear that he has 'Got Brexit done', but we're still some way off from leaving, & leaving properly. I'm hearing encouraging words but I haven't seen too many actions to have confidence that our Govt will not screw us as they've done for 40+ years.
The first sign is not good. Are we sure what Boris has actually signed? Unusually for an international Treaty, the EU has insisted that there was only one copy & it belongs to them. We will 'graciously' be given 3 posh photocopies later. This is, apparently, under the terms of the Lisbon Treaty whereby only the EU is allowed the paperwork on Treaties so we must obey, & obey an EU Treaty that we are leaving Boris did. Not a good start for an 'independent' nation, I suggest.
As for our pro-EU 'impartial' State broadcaster, some four hours after the signing of a historic document for this country not one word about it had appeared on their main website.
We can already see that the pro-EU federalists are ramping up the threats and bullying to get the Govt to cede our military, territorial fishing waters & other rights of self-determination back to the EU via the back door. This clearly demonstrates why sites like this are still needed as the truth is tried to be brushed under the carpet until too late by EU funded media. The job is not yet over. There are too many pro-EU federalists remaining in Westminster & corridors of power who seek to do their EU master's work. Please keep this site going with a donation, however small. After Friday we will be a colony. It will be important to know what the EU are up to and how it will impact us.

I have one simple question, where will the money come from to raise the living standards of the citizens of Albania and North Macedonia to that of the Western member states. They cannot possibly be ready to join the Euro.
France is in turmoil due to high taxation and a few cents on the price of diesel. The French will not want to chip in more for the Albanians nor to Ursula's green dream scheme.

Poorer countries may see the grass is greener on the other side. By that I mean they access free money of the backs of foreign taxpayers. Much of this 'free money' will be served up by the anti-democratic and unaccountable EU off the backs of British taxpayers.
The best way is to trade out of 'poorer' status, but the EU don't see things like that. They use other peoples money to effectively bribe countries into submission which has been going on for decades. They claim other peoples money as their own, and rebrand it to euros - or dare I suggest the EU is akin to a money laundering!
It is not always understandable why less well off countries such as Albania and North Macedonia may wish to hook up to a failing EU, but do they realise what they'd be giving up?
They WILL be controlled by Brussels bureaucrats, and lose their national identity and culture over time as the EU demands more control of their peoples. I hope they wake up before they sell their souls to the 'behind-closed-doors' and secretive EU. They will come to realise their laws will be made by a foreign power, and so on.
I sincerely hope both these countries hang on to their self-respect and don't give up their countries. That of course is a matter for them, but they should know that you don't need to be a member of the EU to trade with it.

Sadly, though, the people themselves will have no say, so ''waking up'' won't be an option. They'll just be coerced, as we all were. It's not about money though - the EU will see it as an enlargement of their power base and imperialistic ambition, and the price will be worth it.

We're being encouraged by the government to rejoice and make merry on 31st so that we all believe we're actually ''out''. (I'm surprised that Mr NF is encouraging it too - unless he feels that BJ, in taking us so far down the road, will find it harder to backtrack.) But then, they hope, we'll sit back in relief, and not pay much attention. I fear the ''transition period'' will see the EU regrouping and finding all sorts of ways, with its foot still in our exit door, to prevent our escape on 31st December. We're being encouraged to celebrate BRINO, while continuing to pour billions into the gaping maw - and we're still being coerced. And the EU is still being appeased.
Thank goodness for facts4eu - we need you to keep your eye on the ball for us!

If Boris is so incompetent, powerless and incapable, of, or maybe unwilling?, to authorise Big Ben to ring out on the faux 'Brexit Day' on the 31st January, to celebrate victory and freedom, how on earth can he be trusted to deliver the Big Brexit we all voted for and are thus entitled to?
Share your alarm and concerns, L Jones, the EU has been given permission to do massive damage to us during the unwarranted transition period and I've no doubt they will do so unless Boris is prepared to defy them. My hope is that we leave with no deal, due to the intransigence of those 'gangsters' (Nigel Farage quote) in Brussels. Narcissistic Nigel seems to have lost the plot some time ago and has abandoned his once influential voice on matters which impact badly on his own people.

There are still only 19 member States in the Eurozone. They are: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain.
