No wonder they want to stop us leaving. On Thursday the EU’s official statistics agency released its latest trade figures, for the period up to March 2019.

The figures show just how much the rest of the EU is making from the UK by selling us more than we sell them.

Brexit Facts4EU.Org looked at the trade balance, ie the value of exports minus the value of imports. This is what the Office for National Statistics refers to as how much the UK has ‘earned’ or lost.

The original Single Market Minister comments

Early this morning the Rt Hon Sir John Redwood, MP for Wokingham, commented on our research.

“The Common Market helped close down great chunks of UK industry by helping German and French exports. The Single Market keeps out non-EU goods and makes it dearer and more difficult to produce at home to bolster the huge surplus the continent still runs with us.

“They make us pay to stay so they can profit from our trade.”

This article is about trade in goods. By the EU’s own admission there is no ‘Single Market’ in services yet – after 26 years - and in any case the EU does not report on services for a long time after a year has closed.

Trade in goods is also what Remain MPs are constantly talking about – even if very few of them have ever had any experience in this field, nor any knowledge of it.

This is about the Customs Union and Single Market

In effect, we’re talking about the Customs Union and Single Market. It is the Customs Union – zero tariffs on goods sold within the EU – which has been the preoccupation of Jeremy Corbyn and his team in discussions with Theresa May and her team over the past three weeks.

The figures above show the reality of the trading relationship between the EU27 and the UK. To call it one-sided would be an understatement.

The irony of it all

Yesterday Mr Corbyn told Mrs May that talks between the Labour and Conservative parties were over. This hardly came as a surprise to anyone. Another few weeks had been wasted by Mrs May on a pointless delaying exercise.

The fact is that Theresa May’s surrender treaty delivers a de facto customs union with the EU anyway, so Jeremy Corbyn’s big play on this was all smoke and mirrors.

The balance of power

Putting aside the deliberate Remain tactics of Mrs May and her negotiators over the last three years, we believe that there is a permanent malaise in the political class and in the Civil Service.

Much has been written of the ethos of a “management of decline” being prevalent. We genuinely believe that this is true. We just don’t see a confident, successful, and economically-powerful United Kingdom being promoted from Government and bureaucratic circles.

We believe in the UK. We produce simple analyses of official figures from the EU to demonstrate why we should be full of optimism and confidence about the UK once again entering the world stage as a fully-independent actor.

With some honourable and notable exceptions, it now seems that only a comprehensive clear-out of many politicians and Civil Service heads of department is required if we are to see our true potential as a country.

We are 'IN HOCK' to the EU27, the EEA and Customs Union have not worked in our favour. So why does Corbyn want a Customs Union which is only obtainable by voting for the Withdrawal Agreement.
For years now lazy and incompetent Governments have been blind to the decline in our manufacturing base. Our balance of trade is regulated by EU membership.
We can't even catch our fish in our own territorial waters anymore. Pot-hole Britain gives its money away to the EU and in Foreign Aid, political correctness is more important.

Amazing isn't it Sydney? Our own politicians are our very worst enemies, and that's a fact!
And talking of pothole Britain, no fewer than 3 members of my family have burst tyres in potholes is Oxfordshire in the last 15 months! Worse, my 23 year old grandson burst BOTH of his bicycle tyres in a pothole whilst out for a cycle ride recently, resulting not only in expense and inconvenience but considerable danger to himself.
But hey, the EU can give £54 million of OUR money to Poland, I believe, to make their roads safe.
And going somewhat off topic, the sinister march of globalist censorship against us continues apace: Robin Tilbrook (not Richard as I previously stated) of the English Democrats who is mounting a legal challenge to the legality of the Government's extension of Article 50, has just had his Facebook account arbitrarily CLOSED without explanation! What these politically motivated dictators are too stupid to realise is that it makes us even more determined to fight and win.

Well said, Sir John Redwood. As if the trade earnings from the UK weren't enough for the EU, they make us pay for the 'privilege'. It still amazes me that remainers never seem to wonder where the magical so called 'EU money' comes from. The EU certainly doesn't generate money. Quite the opposite, it costs a lot to pay all the unelected bureaucrats with their luxurious lifestyles, all the high-tech buildings and several other, unnecessary costs. So where do you think the money comes from, dear remainers? It's certainly not from Bulgaria or Romania.

This is a bit rich coming from Redwood, a senior figure in the Thatcher government which did so much to destroy British manufacturing.
Our WTO import duties were released a few months ago. In the event of no deal, all car imports will have 10% and beef 50% (?-from memory). Almost everything else is zero-rated. British manufacturers and farmers will have to compete against the world (including the EU) whilst having duties imposed on their exports to the EU. There will also be border inspections of meat products. Patrick Minford (one of the key advisors to Redwood's Thatcherites) openly admits zero-rating imports like this will kill off what is left of British manufacturing. It will also be very bad for British farmers.
What do you say to this?

That's why you negotiate a FTA. Trigger Art 24 and plenty of time to negotiate the FTA while tarrifs stay as is...its in the Commons Library. Google it.

Peter Jeffries, yes the FTA would go a long way to solving problems. That should've been our target from the start. I believe there were objections to Article 24 however ?
As things stand, the no-deal will lead to the scenario I depicted above. UK goods into the EU will face import duties and other restrictions, whilst EU goods into the UK will be largely zero-rated and face few restrictions. Also, no incentive for EU to agree to an FTA because they are very much the winners in this scenario.
A fantastic own-goal in other words. I do not know why no deal is seen as so attractive.

I believe the tariff on beef is 60%, if memory serves... but either way, yes it's a lot.
But look at it the other way -- this means that RIGHT NOW we are paying 10% more for non-EU cars and 60% more for our beef than we really need to. Once we are out and can open up properly to trade from around the world, prices on certain goods would fall accordingly, and in some cases, quite drastically. If you still prefer to pay the same, EU-inflated prices for Irish beef (which I'm sure we all agree is very high quality) then that would be your choice. At least you would have that choice, which at present is denied to us by the EU protection racket.
More to the point, let us not underestimate the quite staggering impact this would have on under-developed economies around the world, such as coffee-growing countries being able to build their own processes to send us roasted coffee beans directly (and more cheaply) rather than being forced by the EU to send their green coffee beans to French or German companies to be roasted in Europe, before we get to buy the final product at EU-inflated prices. This is just one example highlighted on this excellent site recently, but there are literally hundreds of such products available from developing nations the world currently being seriously curtailed by the EU protection racket.
This is why the elitist liberal "love the world" Remoaners are just so bloody hypocritical -- it would be laughable were it not so tragic.
