The EU is spending £bns of your money abroad, again

Great news if you live in Turkey, Sub-Saharan Africa, or Asia

What does the latest news from Brussels say about the EU?

There are some facts about the EU which Remain MPs could easily discover for themselves without even having to catch the Eurostar to Brussels.

Over the years we have brought readers some very stark facts about what the EU gets up to, how it spends UK taxpayer money, how it is taking increasing control of our daily lives, and where it is headed. Most of these articles have involved large amounts of detailed research taking many hours or days, with a lot more time needed to distil these facts into readable and punchy pieces.

Sometimes, though, a Remain MP doesn’t need us. All they need to do is look at the public announcements which the EU’s propaganda unit issues on a daily basis.

Three extra facts for Remain MPs about the above data

  1. €4 billion of the €6 billion ‘EU Facility for Refugees in Turkey’ fund is off the books. For the EU it is officially an ‘off budget’ item, meaning that the UK’s large contribution to it does not appear in the Treasury’s figures when they show the UK’s net contribution to the EU.
  2. When it comes to the funding for South and South East Asia, the EU says “EU funding for monsoon victims will be distributed between India and Bangladesh”. Yesterday India successfully launched a space mission to the moon, something which it seems the UK cannot remotely afford to do.
  3. The ‘African Peace Facility’ includes “quick funding for preventive diplomacy initiatives, mediation, fact-finding missions” for African governments and it “will also support efforts of the African Union to promote gender and human rights principles and practices in peace support operations.” A significant number of these ‘peace support operations’ involve former French colonies in Africa.

Observations

Yesterday our editor received a call from Brussels, from a well-respected and successful individual who is now an MEP. Coming from the world of business, this individual has a refreshing approach to politics and speaks his mind. During the course of the conversation he observed :

“Ordinary people understand. They are much smarter than many Westminster politicians and commentariat give them credit for.”

We agree.

MPs have access to vast amounts of information. Regarding the question of the UK’s membership of the EU, it doesn’t even take long to get a sense of things. All Remain MPs have to do is show a little interest in facts.

As we have shown above, they don’t even have to read our detailed exposés of what the EU gets up to. They could just read a few official Brussels announcements and it would give them some idea.

Naturally it helps to have some perspective too, and we hope that by delving behind the headlines from the EU we can bring a big Brexit shining light on the truth behind some of the announcements made from the EU machine. This is why we give MPs free access to the largest searchable of index of Brexit facts in the world : The Brexit Index.

For a small monthly subscription, all readers can access the same material. We ask for a contribution from members of the public because our work doesn’t fund itself and sadly the EU are hardly likely to support our work....
