Facts4EU reveals Sir Keir’s plans which have left indecisive Kemi wrong-footed and facing irate voters

Exclusive: This weekend the Facts4EU team uncovered the truth of how Sir Keir Starmer and his virtually unknown DEFRA Secretary of State Steve Reed will impose EU Regulations on the entire body of the United Kingdom tonight, for the first time since Brexit.

Last week the campaign group ‘Stand for Our Sovereignty’ (of which Facts4EU is a part) mobilised the voting public by revealing Sir Keir’s plans to suck the UK inexorably back under the yoke of EU Regulations, using an innocuous-sounding Regulation. This piece of legislation, ‘The Marking of Retail Goods Regulation 2025’, has the sole purpose of accommodating EU rules which were concocted in Brussels 2½ years after the UK supposedly left the European Union.

UK sovereignty will no longer exist after tonight’s vote

For a country to be sovereign, its laws must be supreme and not under the control of any foreign power. As a member of the EU this was not the case for the UK. Following Brexit, however, it was supposed to be Parliament that made our laws. As readers know, this did not apply in Northern Ireland, but this report is about the three other constituent nations.

When Sir Keir rushes through ‘The Marking of Retail Goods Regulation 2025’ tonight, he will in effect be imposing the will of Brussels on the entire United Kingdom. The legislation will be from Parliament, but he is simply imposing the diktat of the EU.

It was the voters that forced Sir Keir’s hand

Pressure grew throughout last week, as ‘Stand for our Sovereignty’ alerted the public – and many politicians – to this new legislation. The messaging and reports produced by Facts4EU on their behalf soon became the most popular in many months. The reaction was generally that of outrage.

On Friday the Order Paper was printed for today’s business in the Houses of Commons and Lords. Sure enough, there it was, but once again presented innocuously.

Readers will note the reassuring title: “Exiting the European Union”. In fact this legislation does the complete reverse. Importantly, this is presented as a ‘Statutory Instrument’. In essence this gives powers to the Secretary of State (or equivalent in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) to impose orders on people, authorities and businesses, without any debate in Parliament. This is the exercise of ‘Executive Power’.

"No debate" and this is to “be approved”

Readers will also note the words “no debate” and that the S.I. is to “be approved”. MPs who oppose this legislation expected that if it was opposed, then a deferred vote would be called, in view of the late hour. This would normally take place in a room in Commons where MPs could wander in throughout the day and vote and, according to the constitutional experts we consulted, Wednesday was expected to be the day for this.

Exclusively, however, it was the Facts4EU team who read though the Order Paper thoroughly and discovered the following:

The suspension of this Standing Order by the Prime Minister means that a vote WILL be taken tonight. In other words, he does not want any more time to pass, while the ire of the voters continues to rise as they hear of this via ‘Stand for Our Sovereignty’ and all the groups supporting it.

This has been done in the name of the Prime Minister himself. This is extraordinary and almost unprecedented - a watershed moment. It shows just how important this is.

The response to this must be simple and fast – We urge you to take action now

It’s not too late. All weekend emails have been pouring in to MP’s inboxes from Members and supporters of the Stand for Our Sovereignty campaign. Please, please, keep up the momentum this morning and even this afternoon. All the information to do this is in the ‘Sovereignty Toolbox’, including sample emails.

A reminder of what is happening to your sovereignty today

These rules apply solely to the UK, not to any EU or other non-EU country. They apply to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and will affect UK manufacturers regardless of whether their products ever go anywhere near Northern Ireland.

In the latter’s case the situation is even worse, as we have explained before, but the key difference with the legislation tonight is that EU law will now have a direct effect on manufacturers who sell solely in Great Britain, and those who sell to non-EU markets worldwide.

In our next report we will reveal exclusively just how much this could cost our hard-pressed manufacturing sector.

Observations

Readers may wish to know what the parties are preparing to do. Reform UK told us exclusively on Friday that they will be opposing the legislation. Facts4EU’s attempts to contact His Majesty's Official Opposition were unsuccessful. Approaches to Kemi’s top team met with silence. We are concerned because we believe they will abstain.

We would, however, like to pay tribute to Sir Bill Cash, Chairman of the European Foundation, (another endorser of the Stand for Our Sovereignty group), and former Chairman of the European Scrutiny Committee, for his unstinting work with us on this issue for several weeks.

All we can ask is for readers to send in their emails. It does not matter that we are going to lose, send them anyway. Sir Keir has vulnerabilities and the more pressure he is put under, the better.

Dear Helena Dollimore,
I am writing to ask you to vote against the Marking of Retail Goods Regulations Statutory Instrument being presented today, whenever the vote takes place. I hope you will oppose this measure on my behalf and of all who wish to retain UK sovereignty.
DEFRA’s own information shows that the scale of this policy is far larger than many people realise, there is no justification for importing EU rules into our domestic law.
This is not about party politics. It is about whether Parliament is prepared to stand up for the principle that our laws should be made here, with proper evidence and debate.
I will be watching this vote closely. An abstention will effectively be a vote to impose these unnecessary burdens on British businesses. It will also show a contempt, I’m sorry to say, for British sovereignty.

My MP is a lib dem and has never responded to my 2 previous emails and letter.
-
It will fall on deaf ears and they will vote to support starmer and diminish our sovereignty. That is their plan after all.

We know our only hope is a Reform government but we can't bear the damage the next few years will hold.
