Brexit Facts4EU.Org reveals just how power-hungry these people are

The dictatorial arrogance of unelected officials in Brussels reached new heights on Friday, when a French EU Commissioner lectured Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, on freedom of speech.

Below we present this technocrat’s threatening Tweet and used Elon Musk’s own Twitter platform to do so.

Thierry Breton, unelected EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, actually threatened the multi-billionaire owner of Twitter who has opened up that platform for a much freer expression of ideas. In a direct threat this technocrat said: “Our teams will be ready for enforcement.”

Who is Thierry Breton?

Monsieur Breton is EU Commissioner for the Internal Market and hails from France. You didn’t vote him in – and neither did any of the EU27’s electorates – and they can’t vote him out. He is a technocrat, safe in the corridors of Brussels.

He was formerly appointed to senior positions in French government-owned corporations in trouble and then served as a minister in the government of French President Jacques Chirac.

How the EU Commission will control freedom of expression

As with most of the powers which the EU Commission takes unto itself, this process started stealthily with a “voluntary code” for internet service providers in 2018. Those who signed up included Google, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Snapchat.

The ‘Code of Practice on Disinformation’ began by many large organisations agreeing on self-regulatory standards to fight ‘disinformation’. It was then revised by the EU in June 2021 and was signed a year later. Now it will become part of an EU law, in combination with the legislation on Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising and the Digital Services Act (DSA).

'The Independence Documentary'

Together with our partners at CIBUK.Org, we've organised a TV-style documentary with a stellar line-up of well-known politicians and all kinds of interesting people, young and old, men and women, white and ethnic origin, presented by Alexandra Phillips. Alex will be known to many readers as an ex-GB News presenter and a frequent sight on everything from Question Time to Talk TV. We start filming next month, if we can get some extra funding. This is going to be big!

The EU’s new law will apply from August

The strengthened Code of Practice contains 44 commitments and 128 specific measures, and the DSA becomes law on 25 August. After this the EU Commission will impose massive fines on any internet service platforms it deems to have transgressed.

Under the new Digital Services Act, tech companies such as Twitter will have to moderate their platforms for ‘harmful content’ like ‘disinformation’ and introduce protocols to block the spread of ‘dangerous material’.

Twitter currently has around 330 million monthly users. Approximately half of those using the platform come from the United States, Japan and India. The UK is the only European country that makes the Top 10 in the world.

Elon Musk rejects the EU’s totalitarianism

According to the EU’s French Commissioner, Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk has withdrawn from the EU’s totalitarian regime, hence Monsieur Breton’s threats to Mr Musk.

It is worth noting that the independent United Kingdom represents the largest Twitter market in Europe and will be unaffected provided the UK Government doesn’t align with the EU’s legislation.

Facts4EU.Org and CIBUK.Org have approached Mr Musk for his comments.

And finally, Elon Musk destroys BBC journalist in interview

For those who have not seen this, here is Elon Musk taking apart a BBC journalist in devastating fashion. Enjoy.

Observations

“You vill say vat ve vant you to say.”

It cannot only be the Facts4EU and CIBUK teams that find the French EU Commissioner's remarks outrageous. "You can run but you can't hide"? Who does this man think he is? Clint Eastwood?

Both Brexit Facts4EU.Org and CIBUK.Org are firm advocates of freedom of expression. Our only caveat is being against any calls for violence or illegality. We condemn the idea of the unelected EU Commission setting itself up as the arbiter of what people are allowed to say across Europe.

Many times we have called the EU Commission out for misinformation and disinformation. It is a sign of a healthy society when we are able to do this. Come August it seems the EU Commission will decide what is healthy and what is not. Somehow we have serious doubts that they will regard some of our reports favourably.

It is extraordinary that while Ukraine (with the assistance of the UK, the US and some European countries) is fighting a totalitarian aggressor in Vladimir Putin, we have an increasingly totalitarian regime situated just across the English Channel.

The World Wide Web was invented by an Englishman, Sir Tim Berners-Lee. Monsieur Breton’s France of course had to do their own thing – Minitel – but this failed and has vanished without a trace.

As things stand, we applaud Elon Musk’s valiant attempts to allow freedom of speech without political censorship or ‘shadow-banning’.

We must get reports like this out there

Reports like the one above take far longer to research, write and produce than many people realise. If they were easy, readers would see other organisations also producing these daily. However, there’s little point in the Facts4EU.Org team working long hours, seven days-a-week, if we lack the resources to promote them effectively – to the public, to MPs, and to the media. This is where you come in, dear reader.

Facts4EU.Org needs you today
