Facts4EU.Org focuses on a surprising change in ‘liberal’ Sweden’s political landscape

Yesterday Sweden’s 7.5 million voters went to the polls in their 2022 general election. The exit polls are so tight we will not know the final result before Wednesday.

Nevertheless it seems probable that the nationalist, anti-immigration and eurosceptic Sweden Democrats party will take second place, which would mean their coalition with the ‘Moderates’ party would bring them into government.

In today’s Facts4EU.Org report we look at the inexorable rise of the Sweden Democrats, despite an almost exclusively antagonistic media.

If the Sweden Democrats' vote share is confirmed on Wednesday, they will become the second-largest party in Sweden.

The Sweden Democrats' platform

In broad terms the Sweden Democrats (SD) party is eurosceptic, anti-immigration, pro law and order, and pro traditional Swedish national values. Here is what they say:-

“For a long time, we were the only ones who warned about the problems created by the other parties.

"We warned about the emergence of segregated neighborhoods, the rise in sexual assault crimes, organized crime, human trafficking, honor violence, religious extremism, and galloping migration expenses – while public welfare has been decimated.”

A strongly eurosceptic party

On the European Union, for years the SD advocated a referendum on membership and a ‘Swexit’.

This no longer forms part of their official policy platform but their proclivities are clear. In particular they are completely against joining the Euro and their immigration policies would certainly come up against the EU Commission’s. They are firmly against the transfer of powers to Brussels and equally against the concept of a ‘United States of Europe’.

Since the year 2000, Sweden's population has risn by 17% while its birthrate has been falling. According to the EU Commission's official statistics Sweden has seen over two milion migrants enter the country in that time.

Observations

Sweden used to have a reputation as being a tolerant and ‘liberal’ country. Sadly this is no longer the case. A decade of mass immigration has caused a great deal of social unrest.

Despite the government’s denials, there are now effectively ‘no-go’ zones in Swedish cities. We know this from the testimony of a few police officers who have dared to speak out. Gang crime is rife, even to the extent of rival gangs using hand grenades against each other. Rapes and other sex crimes have also risen dramatically.

When it comes to the Swedish media they have consistently been against the Sweden Democrats and true free speech has almost vanished. Sweden’s most influential newspaper Expressen even refused to carry paid advertising by the SD prior to yesterday’s elections. News stories are heavily censored by the media themselves in order to disguise the truth.

As readers know, we hold no torch for any political party but it is clear that the SD have been changing the face of Swedish politics. It will be interesting to see on Wednesday – after ex-pat votes have been counted – whether the SD will finally enter into a coalition government with the ‘Moderate’ party and others.
