“You are 5!” - Happy Birthday, Brexit Britain!

Facts4EU.Org celebrates the fifth anniversary of the Leave vote

Five years ago today we voted to free ourselves from the yoke of EU imperialism

It’s hard to believe, isn’t it? Five long years.

Today, Facts4EU.Org celebrates the fifth anniversary of the Leave vote and the first on which - technically – the United Kingdom is no longer a member of the European Union.

Cast your mind back to that moment at 4.39am, five years ago, when the shocked Remainer BBC declared that Leave had won. Do you remember that wonderful feeling of Brexit euphoria?

In the run-up on the night of 23 June 2016, members of the Brexit Facts4EU.Org team were all glued to TV and computer screens. Like so many readers who had worked and campaigned so hard, we were all very tired... but very hopeful.

The joyous moment… (although not for the BBC)

After many hours of somewhat inconclusive results, the position was finally becoming clear by around 4am. It was about 40 minutes later when the BBC finally had no option but to call the result for Leave. A visibly-shocked David Dimbleby gave the news to the nation.

Relive the moment here:-

And if you are prevented from working by the mass hysteria and collective insanity currently infecting our government and media - and you therefore have time to watch the full monty - you can watch all 11 hours of Referendum night coverage here.

It hasn’t been plain sailing on the good ship Britannia in the last five years

In order to appreciate the achievement of the Leave victory it is important to remember that it didn’t result in the outcome the British people voted for. The then Remain government of David Cameron and George Osborne started breaking their promises on 24 June 2016. Mr Cameron had pledged to invoke Article 50 “the next day” if the people voted to leave the European Union. Instead he resigned.

Instead of informing the EU officially that the United Kingdom was leaving, and focusing on all the preparations necessary, we then had to go through almost two months of a Conservative Party leadership election. This produced the disastrous Remainer government of Theresa May as we all know, triggering the start of years of a rearguard action by the Establishment (and by the EU) in increasingly desperate and undemocratic manoeuvres to overturn the result of the Referendum.

The May legacy was the appalling ‘Withdrawal Agreement’ and ‘Political Declaration’. When Mrs May was rejected and replaced by Boris Johnson, years of damage had been done and the EU was delighted. Following the December 2019 general election when a more representative government was elected, some relatively minor changes were negotiated and the deal was signed.

No, Prime Minister, you did not ‘get Brexit done’

Apart from anything else Mr Johnson, you left behind a significant part of the sovereign territory of the United Kingdom. Today Northern Ireland languishes under a large volume of EU law which can be modified by the EU at any time with no say being allowed for the people of Northern Ireland.

On top of that we have the EU Commission behaving atrociously to a country that so generously supported its funding for almost 50 years – and which will continue to pay into it until 2064 under the terms of the ridiculous Withdrawal Agreement.

Still, today is a day to celebrate the Leave victory five years ago

We will fight on tomorrow, to achieve the true Brexit voted for by the British people. That said, and putting aside all the trials of the last five years, today is a day to celebrate!

The 23rd of June, 2016

After decades of increasing control by a foreign power,
against all the odds,
against all the combined ranks of Remainers in the British Establishment,
and against all the foreign influence which was used,
the British lion was finally able to roar again….

And it roared “FREEDOM!”

Observations

In late 2015 when we started work on Facts4EU.Org, members of the team were prepared to put their lives on hold for the next nine months. We never imagined that we would have to win one battle - the vote to Leave - and then continue fighting to see that decision realised.

Now we are in our sixth year and still it seems we can't return to our normal jobs and normal lives. Not only does Brexit have to be completed, but there are also the battles to be won on freedom of speech, the woke 'cancel' agenda, the return to normal policing and the proper application of the law, and 'climate change'.

Facts4EU.Org and you

We present facts-based research that most of the MSM fails to provide, and through that we give a voice to a more common-sense approach that is shared and sought by so many people. Most of our readers are well-informed and appreciate our fact-based articles, presented in a way you won't see anywhere else. Please help our work with a donation. We have far more to do in researching, publishing, campaigning and lobbying Parliament than we have in terms of the financial resources to fulfil these tasks. We badly need funding to continue - we rely 100% on public donations from readers like you. We are a 'not for profit' team (we make a loss) and any donation goes towards the actual work, not plush London offices, lunch or taxi expenses, or other luxuries of some organisations. Nor do we ask you for further donations if you donate once - we just hope that you keep supporting us. Your donation stays anonymous unless you tell us otherwise.

If you believe in a fully-free, independent, and sovereign United Kingdom, please make a donation now.
