"The City in the post-Brexit world"

“Get Brexit done!” The Brexit Agreement – described by many as ‘thin’ - did this, but left it to others to work out exactly how. The EU then embarked on its smash and grab raid leaving the City wrong-footed.

Professor Daniel Hodson, a long-standing senior city figure and one of the very early start-up drivers behind Vote Leave, founded the CityUnited Project. Daniel has gathered an impressive array of City grandees who say that the Government must accept that the EU has in effect denied normal cooperation with the City and its associated financial services and action needs to be taken.

The City represents the leading exporter of services in the UK and one of the powerhouse engines relied on by the Eurozone itself as well as by the wider European Economy. The CityUnited Project is not a passive initiative; it is a strong one, an assertive one.

The Devonshire House Network are currently firming up the Agenda which will seek to cover the following in the time available:-

What are the short, medium and long term goals?
What lost ground can feasibly be recovered? Is it worth the effort – if so, exactly what sort of action will be taken?
What collaborations in this crucial work can be expected?
What should/will Government do to help?
What can anyone listening to this story do to help?

What many will admire is that, on the face of it, this adhoc group of strong-minded and high-profile individuals are picking up an unexpected loose ball and running with it, unfazed by its sheer scale and importance and the undoubted and massive potential of success.

Unexpected loose ball? Have some objectivity, if you will. The guy heading it voted Leave too & is in the industry - if anyone was equipped to know, it would be him, omg. This is frightening. It's like watching The Apprentice.
How many financial institutions warned, well in advance, that we could end up in the same situation as the Swiss? - to mockery.
These people have to do this - unassisted, as the people responsible are not taking responsibility.
We could have taken note from Switzerland before hamstringing ourselves. Since then we've threatened to break international laws & played
prep-school games on the international arena. I doubt we will have those talks until the big banks relocate to the EU in a scramble for equivalence.
There is nothing new under the sun.

Off topic i know, but i must say given the sound science against glue sniffing, in my opinion must be at epidemic levels judging by psychosis induced comments.

I didn't watch this discussion but I notice one of the items is, "What lost ground can feasibly be recovered?".
So presumably Brexit has lost us ground already ?

Christine (4) I'm not a rejoiner. Your post is an archetype of what I am complaining about. I'm not interested in how wonderful the EU is, but then again all I see reported are problems caused by the Brexit deal.
Tell me one thing that has got better so far, that is all I am asking.

Cannot fault the logic or direction of travel. Some sound minds in the room. Stability is the key to the opportunity mr Ross. Whether you can get enough of the sector to reel their teeth in a little to fund the domestic side.

Has any consideration been given to accruing a physical store of wealth, say silver, that grown organically with the take up of the crypto, that could be used as a buffer against the fiat pound? Also would provide recognizable stability of the product especially to the Asian market
