Since Jan 2018, 1 million people have applied for asylum in the EU

Labour’s 2017 manifesto stated: “Freedom of movement will end when we leave the European Union.”

This was the policy on which people based their decision to vote. In April 2019, Jeremy Corbyn’s spokesperson confirmed that Labour policy was that freedom of movement would end with Brexit.

On Wednesday this week (25 Sep 2019) Labour conference delegates voted against that policy, and in favour of both maintaining and extending freedom of movement.

On its final day, Labour's conference approved a radical policy motion advocating:

The extension of free movement
The closure of all detention centres
The granting of unconditional rights for family members to enter too
Immediate access to all benefits
And the awarding of equal voting rights to new entrants

On Thursday - the day after Labour conference delegates voted to allow open borders - the EU released its latest official figures for asylum seekers into the EU. These show that almost 1 million asylum applications have been made since the start of 2018 to the end of June (Q2 2019).

Almost 150,000 first-time applications were made in the last quarter alone. The top ten nationalities were:-

Syrian
Venezuelan
Afghan
Colombian
Iraqi
Pakistani
Nigerian
Turkish
Georgian
Iranian

Ten years ago, the numbers were far lower. In fact in 2009 there were 196,000 first-time asylum applications in the whole of that year – that’s less than a third of the current rate.

Finally, latest ONS data for the immigration of EU nationals

To complete the picture, the official ONS data for the year ended Mar 2019 shows 200,000 EU27 nationals entering the UK on a long-term basis in that 12-month period.

Observations

Contrary to what most Remain MPs seem to claim, no Brexiteers we know wish to close the UK’s borders to all immigrants.

Furthermore, it is not the policy of either of the two main political parties which still respect the Leave vote in the 2016 Referendum – the Conservatives and the Brexit Party.

In broad terms both these parties advocate the end to freedom of movement from the EU, and a selective immigration system for all EU and non-EU citizens. The main difference right now is that the Brexit Party would end free movement immediately, whereas the Conservatives will only do so after some as yet indeterminate period, likely to be in around four years’ time.

We would simply point out to the Labour delegates who voted at their conference last week that social harmony is engendered by natural integration of a limited number of newcomers into any society. If you wish to open the borders to all, don’t be surprised if voters decide accordingly at the polls.

Madness continues, it's almost as if some idiot thinks the whole of the world can cram into Europe and expect nothing untoward to happen. That Europe will live happily ever after drowning in diversity and perversity.
Of course we are on course for another war, again to start in Europe and again to be caused by the stupidity of the political class.
God help Europe with the moronic political class we have at our disposal currently.

No worries, I think we're okay. Weren't we told that nobody would want to come to the UK anymore because of Brexit? We've now shown what an unfriendly, troublesome and racist nation we are. We need a government that enforces the internationally agreed asylum rules, i.e. a refugee should claim asylum in the first safe country they reach. Anyone who arrives in the UK from Europe is not an asylum seeker (unless of course they are a citizen of a European country fleeing that country). The best way to stop people risking their lives and being exploited on the way to the UK is to make the trip pointless.

In an essay I wrote on the issue of Mass Immigration from Third World Countries to First World nations- that eventually will casue the destruction of the indigenous peoples of those nations. Amounting now on the coastlines across North Africa are not thousands but millions gathering to cross the Med Sea- massive profits for the Trafficker organisations, so rich and powerful as to have no problem with acquiring whatever transportation they require, in all probability greasing the palms of officials to better allow the invasion. It will not stop. Africa alone with billions of people continuing to reproduce no matter their poor environments, will inevitably move towards wherever there is a possibility of improving their lives. How do we stop this mass immigrant invasion from entering Europe? by whatever means? Improve matters in their own homeland? It won;t work as my own experience, has shown from working in West Africa. Their mindset is ions away from ours, only a handful have any education or understanding of the West and its ways. Corruption and Greed sits firmly at the top table in every sphere of business-this only encourages the less fortunate to seek a life elsewhere. I honestly do no know the answer. I agree with all that has been said here, and can sadly imagine with the terrible mess Europe is now in and faceing its monumental immigraion problems and which are so destructive-just consider Sweden as an example, how allowing those that follow the teachings of Islam,to ravage that quite country. What is Labour Party policy? It swings from left to centre (Blairites) and back again. Corbyn cannot make up his mind whether the red flag is compatible with the EU's blue one.
Opposition MP's wish the referendum had never happened and would like to overturn it. They need to be in Government to possibly achieve that. October 31st looms dangerously close, hence their attempt to obtain the Benn extension, which has no purpose other than to delay Brexit, before calling for a vote of no confidence.
Boris may well outsmart them.
The Benn act request for an extension has the purpose of further negotiation which was prohibited in the terms of the Cooper-Letwin extension. Talks (not negotiations) with Barnier have continued. They are about to be shut down, there being no possibility of agreement (Parliament will not ratify the WA).
At a recent meeting of EU-27 ambassadors they were briefed that both sides remain far from an agreement, as diplomatic sources said that the only realistic options on the table were an extension or a no-deal Brexit.

James Bertram: Agree - Sir John's articles on his website are always thoughtful & informative & attract mostly serious debaters I think. Re Labour's latest proposal on free / unlimited immigration, I do think that will be the final straw for some constituencies and is totally out of touch with much of the electorate, total madness. If I may, not quite on topic but I just listened to an item on YouTube re Lib Dems' letter to the EU/Mr Juncker, on our behalf ! How nice of them !! You may recall Boris Johnson mentioned this in Parliament this week to Jo Swinson as she stood up to hail abuse at him. She seemed a little surprised at the time & sat right down again.
