Leaked email is leaving local members fuming

We have just received a leaked email from a source, which provides details of what Conservative Party members in Philip Hammond's constituency of Runnymede and Weybridge received from Mr Hammond's agent last night. We thought you might like to read it.

"The Association is please [sic] to announce the reselection of Philip Hammond. Philip has been an excellent MP for Runnymede and Weybridge since 1997, and has retained the overwhelming support of residents, members and the Association Executive throughout that time.
"Despite the focus of national politics, our meeting tonight was not about Brexit or the next two months, but about the selection of our candidate for the next Parliamentary election; and tonight’s vote reflects the confidence members of the Association Executive have in him as our local MP, based on his hard work and commitment to Runnymede and Weybridge over 22 years."

Observations

This leaked email reveals "the confidence members of the Association Executive have" in their MP. The few members of the Association Executive might be confident, but we very much doubt that all members of the local association feel the same way.

In any event the matter may shortly be taken out of their hands, if the Conservative whip is withdrawn from Mr Hammond today, as it should be.

James puts it neatly. Clearly Hammond has always been very careful. I don't think he should be confident that he won't be caught out.
I've just had a squint at the EU ref voting data for the 382 regions, rather than the constituency split by Prof Hanretty. The latter showed a leave vote of almost 50%. The region of Runnymede voted 54.2% to leave, 45.7% to remain. In GE2017, Hammond had a whopping majority of 35%. I assume Hammond is confident that he will have a majority in the next GE. One hopes there is an excellent Brexit Party candidate standing in the next GE.

What has not been mentioned is that all of Hammond's actions (and inactions) must have been sanctioned by May. She is just as guilty of treachery as he is, and should also be deselected.

Adam Hiley, I predict both Phillip Hammond and Dominic Grieve will retain their seats because both seats are massively Tory, very prosperous (Hammond’s has large private estates in it such as Wentworth (next to that famous golf course) and St. George’s Hill) and many Remainers. Grieves’s Beaconsfield is regularly amongst the Tory Party’s top fifteen or so constituencies eg he had a share of the vote as high as 49% EVEN in the anti-Tory landslide of 1997.
All this mess just goes to show why we need real electoral reform and a system of Proportional Representation to be introduced. My preferred system would be similar to Germany’s ie Mixed-Member PR: https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...
If we had that system then anti-EU Tories in those seats could use their candidate vote to boot out Hammond and Grieve whilst using the more important second vote
ie the party vote’ to still vote Tory on the regional Tory list for the South East region.
