The UK is different to the EU27 – new official EU study

Analysis of new EU data for 2018 shows how EU27 and UK economies differ

On average, EU27 countries’ industrial sectors have 1.5 times the importance of the UK’s

Brexit Facts4EU.Org has analysed the latest report released yesterday from the EU’s official statistics agency on the economies of the EU28 countries. Delving into the data, the results show why the EU’s interests and the UK’s national interests do not align.

Observations

Brexit Facts4EU.Org has previously published numerous reports showing the huge disparity between member countries of the EU. We have done so to help to explain why the UK does so badly out of its EU membership compared to other countries.

We have also wished to highlight to Remainer MPs – most of whom have little knowledge of the EU – that the UK is a dominant member and should not have taken ‘supplicant status’ in the Brexit negotiations. When a country the size of Kirklees in West Yorkshire can have a voting weight equivalent to that of the United Kingdom, something is wrong.

The analysis we have shown above comes from EU data released only yesterday. In this case we have only taken the average of all the EU27 countries and compared the ratios to the United Kingdom. Naturally this masks some massive disparities between individual countries and the UK, but it nevertheless shows how the UK differs from so many of the EU27 countries.

In particular the fact that industry has a markedly less importance to the UK economy than to the average EU27 economy is illuminating.
