Last week the antics of our political class stretched the credulity of the long-suffering electorate even further - if that's possible.

Brexit Facts4EU.Org Summary

Four Cabinet Ministers refused to vote for the Government’s flagship policy. They remain in post.
The Government Chief Whip couldn’t even whip himself to vote for the Government’s motion on Brexit.
The Minister responsible for Brexit said “I commend this motion to the House” and then promptly voted against it.
The Chancellor used his Spring Statement on the economy to propound a completely different Brexit strategy to the official Government one.

Amber Rudd, Greg Clark, David Mundell, David Gauke - Cabinet Ministers who defied the whip last week

And that’s only on the Government side of the House.

On the Opposition front bench Jeremy Corbyn backed a second referendum but whipped his party against it.
The Losers’ Vote campaign who insist on a second referendum insisted on voting against a second referendum.

Meanwhile in Washington the anti-UK Irish T-shock Leo Varadkar told President Trump that

“It will be many years before the United Kingdom is able to make any trade deals, so surely it makes sense to make one with the EU first.”

No-one in Westminster contemplating Mrs May’s surrender document which precludes such a UK-US trade deal even batted an eyelid.

We could go on.

Let’s forget Brexit for a minute

Impossible to forget Brexit? Well, let’s make a superhuman effort.

Putting aside all the inane ramblings of a commentariat obsessed with the minutiae of political machinations in Westminster, one issue finally climbed above Brexit in importance : Democracy.

At last the mainstream media are talking about democracy. Several newspapers carried opinion pieces on this subject to such an extent that readers might almost think they cared.

The metropolitan malaise

In reality, the media is just as much a part of the London ruling class as the politicians. The BBC might send its Children’s TV presenters (masquerading as adult presenters and journalists) up to its Manchester studios but they are merely ‘London Elite – North’.

Even some of the mainstream pro-Brexit organisations are wholly mired in the Westminster bubble. Brexit Facts4EU.Org is one of the very few pro-Brexit groups which isn’t based in London.

Meanwhile, in the real world…

On Friday our friends from Fishing for Leave organised a flotilla of fishing boats down the Tyne, with an accompanying street march replete with marching band. Here’s their video:

This was a magnificent effort by Fishing for Leave and the people of Tyneside and we were pleased to promote it in advance.

The unacceptable face of what we’re facing

In the real world there are real people who vote in elections. They are now faced with local elections in May this year, the possibility of EU Parliament elections in the same month, and – at some point – a general election by 2022.

Who on earth can we vote for?

The political elites spend a great deal of time lecturing us on the ‘Parliamentary arithmetic’ and the impossibility of getting a true, clean Brexit through the House of Commons, but they do not yet seem to have fully taken on board the ever-widening chasm between ordinary people and the main political parties.

If you are a Labour voter in Pontefract (Leave vote 69.3%) how can you vote for a woman (Yvette Cooper MP) determined to overturn Brexit by any means possible?

If you are a Conservative voter in Hastings (Leave vote 55.9%) how can you vote for a Government Minister (Rt Hon Amber Rudd MP) who is such an EU-lover that she can’t even vote for Mrs May’s EU surrender document? She just wants to remain.

And if you are a LibDem voter then frankly you’re in the wrong party, sorry.

The new political landscape

The new political landscape of the country has not yet emerged, but it will.

Our mission is to shine light on the EU and Brexit by researching and publishing information which you simply don’t see anywhere else. Sadly, the political class has fallen to such a level of absurdity that it impacts dramatically on the democratically-expressed wish of the British people to leave the EU.

We started pointing out this democratic deficit disorder (DDO) while Mrs May was campaigning to become Prime Minister. We lost many readers as a result, but it’s interesting how so many have come back, and how we have gained so many new readers.

If we had more funding we would analyse and comment on what we believe will happen to the political parties in the UK. As it is, for the moment we will simply say that MPs and most of the commentariat seem to have no idea of the carnage to come.

If MPs, Councillors, candidates, and all those involved in running political parties are not now seriously worried, they should be.

We elect our MPs to represent us but there is a clear understanding that they have access to a great deal of information, perhaps more than many people do on here. I expect them to use their judgement accordingly. With the information at their disposal they have concluded that your ridiculous WTO option would be a disaster for the country. This is the view of the vast majority of them. These are simple facts!

Scientist.. Even worse that they know all about it and still insist on tying us to the EU.
Do you not think for a minute that they are actually taking actions against Britain.
Is it not possible that they care about themselves and their party more than the people and the country?
Can you not see through it?
If you think the EU care about us,or make decisions to protect us,ou are mistaken.
Its such a shame many of our friends in the country side with the EU and don't feel we can prosper outside of it.

As a start to getting rid of the mainstream parties I sent the following letter to my newspaper (which might inspire you to do the same):
'Local Council Elections May 2nd
Nomination papers to stand as an Independent Councillor in the local elections on May 2nd need to be submitted by the 3rd April - your local Council will explain procedure. If you can stand, please do.
Independents offer voters broader democratic choice; too, they give local issues pure practical priority, unencumbered by the dominant agendas of the mainstream political parties.
However, Independents have a democratic disadvantage in that they lack funds and a network of willing helpers. In order to counter this, I'd appreciate the Surrey Advertiser, soon as nominations are in, printing a list of contact details for all Independent candidates in Surrey so that people like myself can offer help.

A note to scientist.
A prediction is not a fact.
The same organisations using the same basis for their forecasts have been so far wrong they are a joke and have no credibility- that is a fact!
Leave won the Referendum- that is a fact!

Look, we live in a representative democracy and I don’t see what’s so hard to understand about that. Our MPs are elected to represent us and that’s what they’re doing.
You might think you know better but I think you should listen to them because they’re in a much better position than you are to know how damaging Brexit will be.

What does a representative democracy mean?!
It is also plain to see that MPs have no idea how to negotiate a deal. They are incompetent and clearly by ignoring the democratic vote of 2016 are untrustworthy.
Leave won - it’s a fact that many Remainers cannot accept.

It's obvious that Brexit wasn't at all the way it was presented to us. All the MPs are doing is trying to deal with the mess this has caused. They're not all perfect, I accept that and I don't like politicians as a rule, but they're doing what they can. I deal in facts in my job and you must agree that these are facts. We were sold a pup.

Just because you style yourself ''scientist'' doesn't mean you have a grasp of the fundamentals of democracy. You are obviously an EU-lover, so perhaps you might explain why you believe the EU has our good at heart - are they worried about our ability to 'go it alone'? Are they concerned that we might fail in some way? Do they believe we need to be tied to them to prosper? Is their concern entirely altruistic that they seek to bind us closer and make sure we don't escape?
Er - it couldn't be that they want us for our money, could it?
They don't want to be seen as irrelevant either to world peace or successful trade between nations. That's the other reason they don't want to let us go.
Or do you know differently, Scientist? Being much better read than us, you seem to think.
