It’s democracy, stupid

Most MPs have forgotten that it was democracy that got them elected in the first place

A Brexit Facts4EU.Org editorial

For a moment, put aside all arguments about the economy, trade, just-in-time supply chains, ports, and the rest.

The current debacle in Westminster comes down to one thing: democracy.

Either MPs respect the democratic decision of the British people on 23 June 2016, or they don’t. We did not vote to instruct them to re-run the Referendum campaign for two-and-a-half years because they didn’t like the result. We did not instruct them to keep as much of EU membership as possible because of their wild fantasies about how the EU is actually good for us, if we only knew it.

We voted to instruct them to leave the European Union. Very simple.

Conduct all the surveys and do all the analysis you want, but the people voted to make the United Kingdom a sovereign, independent country once again.

  • A country where we have control over our own affairs and where elected representatives discuss and pass laws on our behalf.
  • A country which is not paying an enormous annual tithe to a foreign power to subsidise other parts of their empire as they see fit, paid for by the British people.
  • A country where we are judged according to laws made by our elected representatives, judged by British judges.
  • A country where we set our immigration policies according to the country’s needs.
  • A country where our armed forces have a duty to the Crown and are used in the pursuit of our own interests of security and defence of the Realm, co-operating with partners when we so decide.
  • A country where our fishermen can go about their business without seeing 60% of the catch taken by foreign boats in our waters.
  • In short, a normal, independent, sovereign country.

Now, some people in the country are implacably opposed to all of the above, but they are in the minority. We’ve been active on a daily basis for three years and we saw the brainwashing, the propaganda, and the intimidation of the people by the Establishment, and how it scared many people into voting Remain.

We also saw – and continue to see – the blatant lies about EU membership, frequently trotted about by clueless MPs who know very little about the EU. We genuinely believe that “the majority of the minority” would have voted differently if they had had all the facts. In other words, we believe that the majority for Leave would have been significantly higher if all parties had told the truth, and we wrote this at the time.

This evening’s vote

This evening’s vote on Theresa May’s disastrous Withdrawal Bill will not be the end of the affair, but it’s a key vote nonetheless. As we wrote yesterday, we don’t expect her to lose by the kind of numbers some have talked about, because rebellions have a habit of going soft when it comes to crunch time. But we do expect her to lose.

Sadly this is just one more ghastly step through the steaming, stagnant quagmire that Westminster has become.

What about the people?

If readers can still bring themselves to watch BBC News, Sky News, or ITN, they will have seen a great deal of coverage of Brexit in recent days, most of it from the Remainer point of view. Putting aside the clear anti-Brexit bias, we wonder if readers have noticed how so much of the coverage has been about the machinations, plots and intrigues in Parliament?

What about the most fundamental issue of all? What about the people?

The majority voted to leave the EU, despite the Establishment lined up against them. They were told that “the Government will implement what you decide”, over and over. Almost no-one on television wants to talk about the civil unrest which will ensue from what the MPs are doing to break this solemn promise.

When all is said and done this whole thing comes down to democracy.

This evening and in the coming days and weeks, we regret to say that we will be watching the slow death of democracy in the United Kingdom. The majority of MPs simply do not respect it.

The dire consequences

MPs and many journalists in their Westminster bubble may not be aware of what they might be about to put in train, but we are.

We will write about this again in a future article, but we issue the warning to MPs now. Continue on your current path and you may unleash something you cannot control.

As a responsible group this is the last thing we want and we will always advocate moderation. But we won’t be able to control it either.

And MPs? You will be held accountable for the consequences of your actions, as you would expect.
